Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I guess the calipers are not too expensive to find used but that is one expensive rotor even compared to common competition brake kits.
Leading evidence: 'Use but' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test stand' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Wouldn't call this "budget" by any stretch but it's a great use of OEM+ parts.

Suggestion
The hat hieght on the cayman is different then 996 so the pistons r not centered in the caliper if using stock parts?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
I have been working on piecing together a budget friendly brake setup. Initially I wanted to go with the 350mm rotors from a 997, but the caliper bolt spacing difference was not big enough between the C2 and C4s/Turbo calipers. So I spent a good amount of time searching for alternatives ranging from eccentric caliper studs, to spacers, to spindle swaps. All were very viable options.
But what I ended up with is an OEM Brembo 6-piston caliper and 380mm rotor from a GT4 Cayman. I got the brackets for the calipers machined to my specifications out of 6061 aluminum and currently fiddling with brake lines from a MK4 Golf. Everything seems to be fitting ok and I have not put it on my car yet, but I am so excited and wanted to share my progress so far.
I understand some of you will think it's pointless and it is ok to have your opinion.
I've attached a photo of my test stand. Excuse the mess in the background.
The 380 been done and is pretty cheap compared to a traditional BBK but there is no getting around rotor cost (unless you’re like me and get them from FCP).
What rotor hat r u using and how do make it work? The hat hieght on the cayman is different then 996 so the pistons r not centered in the caliper if using stock parts? Or did u machine the offset into the mointing bracket? What r u gonna do with the back to balance the brakes and lastly i hope u r planning on a 997gt3 master cyl upgrade to stiffen the pedal.
I machined the adapter bracket offset to match the OEM GT4 offset.
I am going to go with a 350mm rotor but stock caliper in the rear. I prefer more front biased brakes so that might work out fine for me.
And yes, I will be switching the master. However I will look into other options in addition to the GT3 master.

Fair point! I would consider this a budget 380mm brake setup, but definitely not a budget brake setup.
The calipers are about $600 brand new, rotors are $900 from rennline, and pads and lines. All in all the setup will tally up to about $2000.
