Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Fill bit' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check with tech and register the issue in their database' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Yeah, I’ve replaced belts before and never noticed a vibration.

I picked up my 02 C2 coupe yesterday from an indy who replaced the power steering hose and the serpentine belt with new OEM parts.

I plan to call the shop tomorrow to check with tech and register the issue in their database.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I picked up my 02 C2 coupe yesterday from an indy who replaced the power steering hose and the serpentine belt with new OEM parts. As the car is equipped with the (infamous) fuel chiller, the tech had to discharge the AC lines and remove the compressor. He also added a fair amount of refrigerant when re-installing the system. After driving away from the shop, I noticed a pretty strong vibration in the car at idle when the AC compressor is on. Vibration stops when compressor is deactivated. Would this vibration be due to something that happened to the compressor, a mis-alignment, or is it due to a new belt breaking in?
Definitely not the new belt 'breaking-in'.
Regarding A/C refilling, it's paramount to put the specified amount of refrigerant back into a fully evacuated system and only put lubricant into it when parts have been replaced. The workshop manual specifies how much for each part of the system.
A tech who does A/C service knows all this but perhaps he made mistake? Speak to him and describe your observations. I can imagine that too much refrigerant could cause vibrations which can/will damage the A/C compressor.
Yeah, I’ve replaced belts before and never noticed a vibration. They said they removed 0.6 lbs. of refrigerant (a leak!) and recharged with “2 lbs.”, the maximum charge is 850 g. (1.88 lbs.), so over-filled a bit. I plan to call the shop tomorrow to check with tech and register the issue in their database.
Couple things come to mind...
1) possible compressor wasn't installed securely. Maybe mounted incorrectly..? not tightened down...etc.
2) Or, maybe more likely, since only 6 oz of refrigerant was reclaimed, you had a leak and ac should not have been working if this was true. As system would have cut out on low pressure switch with less than half a charge. So when ac was turned on, ac clutch would not have engaged and no normal 'feeling' of compressor kicking in would be felt. Now with a full charge you can feel the compressor kicking in and pumping. How much you can 'feel it depends on, compressor and compressor clutch health/wear/condition..,.
If it were me, I'd talk to the shop that did the job and let them check it over to make sure nothing was overlooked/mistakes/etc. If nothing is found wrong, and ac works fine, its probably just normal ac operation, combined with a normal 20 year old worn compressor/clutch.
Did they find the freon leak..? Hows the AC working..?
jmo
Thanks for the ideas. Prior to the work, AC was blowing cold air, so I was surprised they pulled out only a fraction of the charge. I soured on that shop when they started to deny and blame other issues, like how did they know it wasn’t broken when I came in. Sadly, this is a well known Porsche Indy in Northern Virginia, but the original Porsche guru is now semi-retired so I guess they’ve gone downhill. I was surprised they didn’t let me know, if there was a suspected leak, it wouldn’t hold a vacuum. Disappointing. Anyway, I’m headed to another shop tomorrow to have the refrigerant pulled out and system re-charged.
