Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought another 996, oops, but a coupe this time. It came with 2021/2022 dated Conti tires, with almost no wear, mounted on Gemballa Le Mans 18" rims. However, a friend said they look to stretched across the rim with the sidewall going inwards, and would be concerned of the beed breaking on the track. They are Conti ExtremeContact Sport - 225/40 18 and 285/30 18. Gemballa wheels are 9x18 et52 and 11x18 et 62. They do stick out a little from the fenders. I have a pair of 997 Carrera Classic wheels that I was planning on mounting different new tires for my other car, but now that I have this set of Conti's that are brand new for the most part, wondering if they can be mounted on them. They are standard size 8x18 and 10x18. I'm not fan visually of the black painted wheels but for the track they'd be fine, if they are the best choice. I don't know much about Gemballa. Pics:

POST 3Original post

You're fine either way imo, there are more important things to tend to. Choose which set you want to run and get your alignment, brakes and preventative items for the engine. It's not a big deal to stretch a bit on those wheels, but those are the sizes for the OEM carrera wheel with the 10 in the back and won't have that stretch. If you keep them on the 11, go enjoy them and then get a wider tire after they're done.

POST 5Original post

Front rim is adding 1/2" on the outside of the wheel and might poke a bit. Rear is GT3 spec and should fit okay. I agree that the tires look a bit stretched on the rims. I'm pretty conservative when it comes to safety and for track work I'd go with correct fit between tire and wheel. Others with more track experience could definitely provide more insight there.

Thanks for that, useful site! Yeh, I wouldn't have noticed it honestly, but when he pointed it out, I now see compared to my car and his, they are very stretched. It can't hurt to move them to the 9 and 10x18" spares rims I have and save the Gemballa for something else, or sell. I don't know much about them.

235/35 and 295/30 on my 19 8 and 11 sport designs

POST 8Original post

A 285/30 might be a touch too narrow, you wont have much of a sidewall. A 285/35 would be a better option but if you're already at that option, a 295/30(GT3 spec) would be a best for that width.

POST 9Original post

Thats 225/40 and 285/30 on 9 & 11x18 Michelin PS2. Looks nearly the same.
