Again, nobody that I know of has used megasquirt for their 996 swap.
Leading evidence: 'Use megasquirt' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend dbc at all' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
It includes running a cable and the OEM cable pedal conversion that I made.

Btw, I also spoke to a guy successfully running DBC on a LS 996 Terminator Max setup, so it can be done.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought a 996.1 car with no DBC pedal or cable installed. While I have the workshop manual, I'd like to understand how the cable is precisely mounted, and most importantly how the pedal "cam" setup actuates the cable. The reason being my roller chassis will be getting a LS swap, but I'm at a loss trying to gauge how to fashion the OE pedal to the cable throttle body without seeing one of these OE setups in its entirety in person first. I'd prefer to not throw parts at it unnecessarily (since this could go any number of ways using any number of OE or aftermarket stopgap parts) so looking for insight into how I could fab something to actuate the GM throttle body, or at least how the OE Porsche pedal and cable work. I've heard the cam is an oddball design. Many thanks.
U may want to ping
@gtxracer
as he has done this swap with a cable and then he switched to a electronic pedal. He had his reasons and they might save u some trouble.
I recommended reading my build thread. Its all documented there for the DBC cable and the reasons I ditched it for DBW. It includes running a cable and the OEM cable pedal conversion that I made. I wouldnt recommend DBC at all.
I was reading your thread earlier this week:
This is a post from your thread. In my case, I am going Megasquirt for the value and functionality. It would be cheaper and less hassle to retain DBC; however, my chassis doesn't have the cable or the pedal installed. It's still cheaper to retain DBC than a DBW + DBW module though. My point is, I don't know the length or the mounting situation with regards to using the OEM cable since I don't have one in my hands, and I'd rather not throw parts at it without knowing. My engine lid is already cut out and the fan removed, so I have plenty of space. Would it otherwise mount fine since I have the extra space? Thanks for the reply.
You will have problems with closing the deck lid with a DBC setup. Thats aside from the issues with the cable throttle being slow and unresponsive. Dont be fooled by people that say DBC is faster than DBW - its not. That is completely false. There are zero mechanisms that are faster than electricity flowing through wires in this application. None. Chevy guys say that because they think DBC is more reliable, and it is, but it is not better performance and DBC is worse for packaging in a 996 swap. You will not have enough space even with deck lid fully gutted.
I mention all of this in great detail in my thread. Are you certain youve read it? This is all covered and I dont really want to regurgitate what is already documented for this very reason.
If you use megasquirt, youre on your own as far as debugging and troubleshooting. Nobody else has used that as far as I know. You seem to be creating problems for yourself and youre not exactly taking the advice thats offered - youve been warned, my friend.
edit: the C7 pedal adapter is no longer available. Your best bet is to buy a 996.2 egas pedal and use that. Youll just need to input the pedal parameters into your engine management system which is pretty simple. Again, covered in my thread.
My bad, I took a look at each post since the beginning and saw the issue. Your mount kit mounts your motor rearward more so than mine. I wouldn't have the same issue. I think DBW wins over DBC in objective measurement as long as it's well implemented, however DBC has been the standard up until ~20 years ago, so I think responsiveness is a function of the builder. A properly run and taught cable doesn't incur a ton of penalty over an average DBW setup. I prefer DBW, but it doesn't make so much sense in my case. Megasquirt vs other standalones is a no-contest in my opinion, unless you are considering DBW or multiple cam VVT. You have to pay multiple fold the price of a MS3 just to get a Holley or your name here proprietary CAN and tuning setup with less i/o. For track use and multiple sensor datalogging alone, Megasquirt is unmatched unless you prove me wrong. This is all public knowledge. Megasquirt/EFI Source is made here with US based support.
Again, nobody that I know of has used megasquirt for their 996 swap. And also, again, youre taking your own advice after asking for help. Youre creating problems for yourself.
Well, see there's the problem. No one
you
know has used it on a relatively unpopular platform. Indulging in hearsay is a good way to miss objective evidence, and why you see myself taking my own advice here. I really came to get a quick and friendly synoposis, but wasted my time. I wasn't going to write this, but then I realized someone in the future may be in a similar predicament as I was, so I'll elaborate on my rationale with objective data. In short, MegaSquirt was a common engine management solution when LS engine swaps became popular. There is a trove of information for the LS just as there are ready-made harnesses -- just not for the 996 of course. As you learn circuitry and schematics, you realize that the implementation of MegaSquirt is almost identical to any other management solution like Holly. Actually, a major MegaSquirt advantage is the fuel pump is ground switched. Holly requires a 12 volt positive switched fuel pump trigger requiring modification of a relay or the addition of a relay, or consumption of one of the few extra outputs if that's possible. I could go on. Dual widebands? Nope. Traction control using multiple VSS? Nope. Powerful datalogging? Nope. With MegaSquirt you can. My biggest gripe however is that Holly and similar aftermarket companies use a proprietary CAN bus. In short, you're limited to only what they offer at the price they offer, whereas MegaSquirt is open source, so any company or even I can make modules. Then, there's the value. Do you want more than 4 I/Os? $500 for the Holley I/O expander, $300 for MegaSquirt, although the MS3 comes with way more I/O out of the box than Terminator. Ever speak to Holley support? They seem a bit lost sometimes. That's because they were bought out by an investment company and support moved offshore. Anytime I need support for MegaSquirt, I just call the folks in Pennsylvania who really know what they're doing. Btw, I also spoke to a guy successfully running DBC on a LS 996 Terminator Max setup, so it can be done. And now you see, as I age I take advice with a grain of salt, especially if I have a conviction suggesting otherwise (usually based off of sound research and critical thinking).
