Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It was originally listed at $20,000, but final price will be negotiated tomorrow (after the PPI is performed), and the seller is extremely helpful and accommodating, he's more concerned the car goes to a good home than anything else (he's already declined two sales due to the way the potential buyers treated the car during test drives).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm currently a Boxster (986) owner, and I'm in the process of buying a 2001 996. I'm ecstatic not just because it's in great condition, but it's had the IMS resolved by Flat 6 Innovations. I'm curious about the color. The seller says it's Orient Red Metallic. Researching the VIN online is interesting, as some sites call the color just what the seller is calling it, others call it Zanzibar Red. One site in particular lists Zanzibar Red in one section, then later down the page calls it Orient Red Metallic. I guess my question is: What's the difference? Are Orient Red Metallic and Zanzibar Red the same thing? Regardless, it's absolutely gorgeous!
Just to add to your confusion, I thought that color was called Arena Red Metallic...?
Zanzibar Red is actually more of an orange.
Very nice car. Congrats!
Good on ya!
BTW, have you looked at this?

You can check the color code on the label on the frunk underside.
No affiliation but Philips in Newport has an incredible (in my opinion) car for sale. Listed as the Zanzibar Red, and looks a little more orange the the one you are looking at, dyerhaus.

Yes - I've looked at the frunk code and it comes up as Orient Red Metallic, so I'm certain that's the color. I was just getting confused as some sources call it Zanzibar Red.
Thanks for the link to the Zanzibar Red model, it's definitely more orange!
Peel back the trunk liner on the right side and there should be a plaque with the color code and name on it. About 2" x 1". Now I've seen this on my mk2, don't remember if it was on the mk1.
Looks like Orient Red Metallic to me, same as mine. As you may have already noted, the colour changes quite considerably in different lighting conditions. Very classy colour in my highly biased opinion
No problem! It's a 2001 Carrera with 53,500 miles. It's (as the paint code indicates) Orient Red Metallic with full Black leather interior and a 6 Speed Manual Transmission. This car was manufactured under the "Porsche Exclusive-Programme" on January 31, 2001 (so it's birthday is almost here) and it has an extensive list of options including (but not limited to): 18-inch Turbo Twist Wheels, Full Leather (as mentioned), Lumbar Support (unlike my Boxster), Heated Seats, Comfort Package, Technic Package, etc. It comes from an enthusiast collector and is in really stellar condition. One of the big selling points is the fact the car had the IMS cured by Flat 6 Innovations. But, like I noted somewhere earlier, it's literally on the other side of the country. I'll be making shipping arrangements on Monday or Tuesday and then I'll still have to wait another 8 to 10 days for its arrival. I'm beyond excited!
I think the only 996 I would consider over that long a distance is one that Flat 6 had done that work on. Don't think California will let you not have a front plate. Even at $20k it sounds like a great buy. In your shoes, I couldn't sleep at night until the truck arrived and the car was on the ground and the keys in my hands. Enjoy.
They technically won't allow a car without a front plate, but I haven't been nicked yet for not having one.
From my research, if you park on a street in San Francisco or downtown LA, that's your best bet for getting ticketed.
Well, that's what I would honestly rather do, not just for the road trip, but I'd love to actually meet the owner in person. He's just a very cool guy via the email and phone calls we've had. Sadly, it's just not feasible at this time to fly out there and drive back.
Yes, California wants you to have a front plate. However, I've had a Boxster 986 for the past seven years with no front plate and I've never even been looked at twice by an officer. If, for some reason, they make me put one on this car, I'll get something that doesn't stick out like that one in the photo, something that forms to the bumper. But, I'm not too worried about it as I've never had an issue with it in the past. And… yes, I am very anxious to get the car!!
Yup, only if you are parked on a city street where meter maids can ticket you. It is a $10 fix it ticket, and super easy to resolve. never goes on your record. I drive without a front plate, and briskly, and CHP has never pulled me over for a lack of front plate.
Whether it's officially called Orient or Arena Red, in the south we keep it simple.
For example,
If it looks anything close to these, it
BURGUNDY
.
And if it looks like this, then it's
RED
!!! ha!
Update
: I spoke with the mechanic who performed the PPI today on my soon-to-be 996. I expected him not to really find anything wrong with the car, the current owner has been exceptional about telling me everything possible about the car. However, what I didn’t expect is just how blown away the mechanic actually was. I asked if he saw anything wrong, anything that needs to be addressed, anything to worry about at all. His response floored me:
“Nothing. Nothing at all. In fact, Chris, this car is absolutely pristine, immaculate. I’ve never seen a 996 in this good of shape. It’s probably the finest example of a 996 you’re likely to ever find.”
I spoke to the current owner shortly after and we’re working out the financial details, that’ll be settled tomorrow. How could I have been this lucky? Here’s another photo the current owner sent. I am so anxious to get this car, it’s adversely affecting my sleep!
