Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The rear side windows cannot be raised when the top is down on my new to me 2000 C2 Cab. It is the same with my Mother's SLK. I passed a 996 or 997 TT with the windows raised with the top down. It makes a difference for wind with the top down. Does anybody know the reason?

POST 2Original post

As I recall in the manual the rear windows cannot be raised when the top is down but can be lowered when the top is up. I believe this feature was part of a sub contract to an Italian firm.

POST 3Original post

That's normal for rear windows on cabriolet. Re cruise control from your other posting. There is a push button on end of control arm. Why does a fuse not go into the holder? Doesn't make sense. The steering adjustment only goes in and out on mine. Not up and down. Push and pull hard after dropping the setting arm under the column. I have a 99 cab with original IMS bearing even though I changed the clutch last month. I left 'well' alone. Got mine 6 years ago with 45000. Now has 84000.

POST 4Original post

It likely has something to do with the lack of support for such a small glass panel without the roof contact. While I haven't tried it, I understand that if you push the microswitch in the front latch on the windshield frame, you can trick the system into believing the roof is up and raise the rear side windows.

POST 5Original post

To raise the rear windows with the top town: Stick your finger in the hole up front where the top latches in the middle... you'll feel something compress. Then you can raise the rear windows.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the responses. Curious if anybody knows for sure if there is a mechanical reason that you should not raising these windows with the top down. My last car was a Mustang Convertible. With all 4 windows and the wind deflector up, you could create a very windless environment which was perfect for some occasions.

POST 7Original post

I put mine up all the time with the top down. I haven't had any problems from doing so, and I'm not worried about having problems in the future.

POST 8Original post

Porsche built them that way. You can pick up a SmarTop module that will allow the rear windows to be up with the top down. Also the module allows "one touch" top up or down operations and so other things. I am looking at getting one but maybe someone that has the SmarTop installed can chime in.

POST 9Original post

Honestly it doesn't make much of a difference with the rear windows up. The wind deflector on the other hand makes a huge difference.

Might have been brain fart on my part. It is the B3 Fuse that is missing which is the horn and the 30 AMP fitted, not sure why I could not get the 7.5 to stay in last time. I cannot imagine that the previous mechanic would not catch that so will call him on Monday. You were right on the steering column, was trying to go up and down.

To paraphrase "A Christmas Story" "You'll poke your eye out kid!" I also use the wind screen and all windows to keep my passenger from mutinying on cool top down days. I try to remember to put the rears down as we park. This keeps folks to from getting poked while reaching behind the seats for stuff when the door is open.

POST 12Original post

My first Mod when I got my cab was the SmartTop module. There was a GroupBuy at the time on this forum. You can take the top up or down while driving slowly (below 35 mph I believe...) and you can also raise or lower the rear windows anytime you want. It's very cool and is an easy DIY too, I highly recommend it. Cheers,
