Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My car had had its radio replaced with an aftermarket unit which made removing it a pain, but taking my time it's not too bad a job.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys, great forum. Glad to be here, this forum was really valuable when i was researching my ticking time bomb, I mean 996.
2002 Carrera 4 Cabriolet Tip 74k miles
It had the IMS done in 2013 at 60k miles. It runs strong and it's been an absolute blast to drive (when we've had clear, dry roads)... It will be a garage queen until winter is over, but I'm really enjoying the car. I wish it was a manual, but enjoying the car nonetheless.
Quick question, it has the Porsche factory radio with CD trays, has anyone upgraded to the nav system from this configuration? I don't really need the nav but i do like the way it updates the interior. Just a quick musing as I get to know the car.
Thanks!
Welcome to Rennlist! Hope you'll consider being an official member.
Regarding the radio. I'm assuming you have the MOST based CDR23 and want to move to a Porsche PCM2, correct? Moving to a PCM2 is not a major issue if you have a MOST based setup, but the radio will have to unlocked by Porsche. You'll also need to get a double din adapter and modify the current single DIN setup center "Horseshoe" frame.
Even you go with a stock double din or aftermarket, you'll need to purchase the upgrade kit:

Remember, if you go with an aftermarket HU, you'll need to change out your frunk amp.
Great point! Oh, I thought the '02 had MOST, but that's actually better for the OP. I wonder if he has the CDR-220 and frunk amp? Well, if he needs help, lots of great people on RL to assist.
Great looking car! I am in the middle of upgrading the audio in my '02 Cab. Went with the Kenwood DNX693X package from CAI. My car had had its radio replaced with an aftermarket unit which made removing it a pain, but taking my time it's not too bad a job. You will need to relocate the climate control to the lower part of the console, can be a little tricky getting the cables down there. Plenty of great advice on this and other forums. Enjoy your new toy!
Here's a link with some photos that show what I had done. Scroll down and you'll see my C4S. It says 2003 996, but it was actually a 2002. It was a huge upgrade.

Thanks Dennis, that looks incredible! I really appreciate all of the advice. I don't want to be accused of butchering a perfectly good Porsche, but good to know this is generally considered an ok upgrade. (Not that I have unrealistic notions about this car as a collector)
I really appreciate the warm welcome and the advice!
