This is not a probability of success.

Just wondering if you've heard of a repair diaphragm part for 996/986 AOS.

Ahsai is correct I tried a repair with Viton membrane on an AOS that a fellow Forum member sent me.

I also think the AOS are very similar between 986 and 996 and that they probably use the same/similar diaphragm and just vary on the orientation so, is this doable?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys!
Just wondering if you've heard of a repair diaphragm part for 996/986 AOS. There's a guy on eBay selling a diaphragm replacement for a 986 AOS for $14.60. The item number is 381944508835 and can be found here.

I asked the seller if he had a write-up or know where to find one. I've searched in various Porsche forums and have not found any yet, many of pictures of the AOS internals but no write-up.I know the part is fairly inexpensive and the diaphragm cover is plastic-welded so, please spare me the lecture!
I believe the diaphragm cover could be removed successfully and then epoxied or JB-weld back together with the new part installed. I also think the AOS are very similar between 986 and 996 and that they probably use the same/similar diaphragm and just vary on the orientation so, is this doable? Has anyone attempted it?
Thanks beforehand for your comments.

Ahsai is correct I tried a repair with Viton membrane on an AOS that a fellow Forum member sent me. It is a ridiculous project. I wrote up a total mea culpa at the time and everybody laughed.
The motivation was that there are reports from reliable sources of defective AOS units from the dealer even. I was trying to avoid that issue. There was an attempt at a diy alternative AOS by a fellow called Stelan. But unfortunately it did not quite work....That was a disappointment.
Even if you could repair it you would still have to gain access to it. This is the most tedious part of the job and therefore the most expensive/time-consuming. After all of that I'd hate to put a part in there that fails and I have to tear it all apart again.
I wish there was another solution that wasn't the motorsports option and was reasonably priced. I'm thinking something like those oil filter relocation kits where we can put an AOS somewhere more accessible and better equipped to do the job than the stock one.
Also it looks like this guy removed his listing!
Stelan had a great idea. He got lots of encouragement. It almost worked. The problem was fuel trims. Jake even made some suggestions to help him.I think JR once mentioned he had an alternative AOS design but it was not commercially viable.
Pity on both counts.
