Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Recently I hit a brick on the freeway & tore up my back-end plastic underbody panels on my 2002 996. I was able to find 2 of the 3 panels but just can't seem to find the real most one. Even the dealer doesn't show it in their diagrams. I don't have the part number to share as it tore off that section during the impact. Can anyone help me with the part number so I can order it or try to find it? please see pictures with the part circled in red & the arrive pointing. This is the last panel at the back under the transmission area. There are some air intakes molded on it too. Thank you all Niran

This is the diagram for the 1999-2005 996 https://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-...section=801-70 Do you have a turbo modal? It shows on the parts listing, but not on the diagram itself (scroll parts list to very bottom) https://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-...=99650452902#a

That's not it, it's the first one I posted. It's a GT3 piece https://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-...section=801-70 Part 19

Ok, looks like same part number for both Turbo and GT3 - The turbo part was specifc to M480 2001-2005 Turbo. Could be a GT3 too, though Auto Atlanta lists that part as being for the 2003-2005 GT3 and OP said he had a 2002, hence my assumption he had a turbo.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you all for taking the time to solve this mystery for me. I don’t know how my car ended up with this GT3 part when it’s a base Carrera 2. The parts guy thought I the original build used it bcs it’s a manual 6 speed to get extra ducted air to cool the transmission. When no one could help me at the dealers & other independent shops including salvage yards, you all came to my rescue. I went to Rusnek to personally order this am. Hope I can be of help to anyone out there in the future. You guys are an amazing team. Thank you thank you, Niran

people here have talked about adding that piece to the regular Carrera. It directs some air up onto the transmission.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got it, that probably a good option. Still how did my car get it in the first place. I’ve had the car for about 13 years & I don’t think it was added by the previous owner. It was added at the original build.

POST 9Original post

No it would not have been built that way as it was not an option to even be added to the build. The PO must have put it on at some point. Its on the gt3 cars because they have a cooler on the trans and it needs air directed toward it. Others add it because it helps smooth out the air flow under the car.....maybe?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got it. Thanks for the explanation. Yea I could have not replaced it but since I had it I’ve been keen to replace it even though it’s now going to cost me another $140. Such is life for us Porsche guys right?😂

POST 11Original post

Delaware porsche is $100 but not sure about the shipping.

POST 12Original post

That part is also on my 04 Base 6 speed. I find it hard to believe it wasnt from the factory.. weird -Eric

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I had locked my 2002 Carrera 996 while on holiday & today on my return tried to unlock the door with Key Fob but it did not unlock. The Fob red light blinks but the door doesn’t unlock. Then I tried to manually unlock by inserting the key on the lock still nothing is unlocking. My battery shows 12.5V which I confirmed at the trickle charger port. I can’t get inside the car with this situation. I tried other keys to open manually & had no luck. The alarm lights continue to blink regardless. Anything anyone can suggest? thank you, Niran

POST 14Original post

Check your key battery? Unwind a metal coat hanger (or make something similar), slide it in between the window and the door seal and try to pull the interior door handle with it. Or, since your car has a stable battery, use the unwound hanger to press the unlock button on your dash.
