Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, everyone. Theres a bit of moisture buildup in my passenger side halogen headlight that needs to be addressed at some point. And I figure if Im doing one side, I may as well do the other. As far as I can tell, that leaves me with three options. 1) New units, which is a frighteningly expensive proposition. 2) Used units from eBay which look decent, but need new insulation around the wiring. 3) Repair the units I have, which otherwise work fine despite the moisture. The first option solves the problem, but at quite a cost. The second saves money upfront, but for all I know the re-insulation could run me nearly as much as new units. Finally, the third I have no objection to but on the other hand just kicks the can down the road. With that said, whats my move? Thanks.

Before you do anything check with Adrian https://www.adriantaillights.com/

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That could make my life a lot easier—thank you!

POST 4Original post

.1 or .2? .1 lights are easy to find. The .2's not so much. New ones are crazy expensive too with only 1 after market option that is ugly IMHO and expensive!

POST 5Original post

Bite the bullet and convert your existing headlights to bi-zenon or LED . Adrianstailights has everything you need . Replace everything including the wire harness and you are good to go for a very long time . Plus you get improved headlight performance .

Dot-1 for me, with amber lenses. And yeah, the price of a new set is shocking.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 20064133

Oh gosh, I dont know. I mean, youre right about performance, but I like the aesthetics of the halogens.

POST 8Original post

If you really like the halogens, you should repair your current set of lights then. Buy some butyl rubber, heat your headlights with a headlights with a heat gun and remove the old sealant to be replaced with the new. May as well polish those lenses once youve resealed them to obtain the best efficiency. The retrofit lab taught me to utilize a cardboard box as a makeshift oven, with the heat gun firing into a hole in the oven. It works really well! They have videos on their webpage (and YouTube channel) that can give you more detail. Im currently in the middle of such a job, and removing the old sealant is a tedious task. The process is sped up with heat, making the sealant more pliable, and Ive found that its easy to work with when you leave the opened headlight soaking in the sun.

Haintriguing! But as someone who has multiple failed batches of brownies to his name, using a cardboard box as an oven gives me a little pause. A man's got to know his limitations.

POST 10Original post

Youre selling yourself short. Its a very straightforward process. You could always contact Adrian Taillights if you want it professionally done, though.

POST 11Original post

My tech did mine before Adrian started on my .1 the kit came from Denmark I believe and with the cost of my tech Adrian was about the same $$$ but the light throw is amazing

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello again! My headlight saga continues. New .1 lights are currently on indefinite hold from Porsche Classic, leaving eBay. There's one seller with a few sets that look pretty decent, other than yellowing around the main and high beam bulbs. Is this a sign of something very wrong, or just years-old burned out bulbs?

POST 13Original post

Its the internal lenses that have been burned by high-power halogen bulbs. See this thread for a better idea: https://www.pff.de/en/thread/2823849...ight-pictures/ Unfortunately, I dont know where you can find replacement lenses. But on the bright side, the headlights that you are interested in appear to be mildly damaged and will probably continue to work well with regular halogen bulbs.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oof. Those burn marks will bother me more than the moisture getting into my current units. Speaking of, my lenses are fine; can I swap them in?

POST 15Original post

Sure, but youll need to open up both sets of headlamps, which means youll have to make that cardboard oven I mentioned earlier.

POST 16Original post

I'm sending my burnt halogen units to Adrian for conversion to Bi-LED. I was able to source a set of halogens locally here in the ATL relatively inexpensively that I'll use while Adrian is fixing mine that have relatively clear lenses. My plan is for me to polish them, replace the missing headlight gasket on the left side headlight and use it in the meanwhile. I'll more than likely sell them after I get back the Bi-LED conversion (it will take a few weeks to get my headlight back). PM me in a few weeks. There is a chance that I may keep them in case I want to go back to halogens but that seems unlikely. Photos below show the current headlight and what I'm using as temp headlights. Temporary replacements.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 20099647

Hi there! If you like the OEM halogen look, I may have a solution for you. I recently upgraded a customer's brand-new set of 996.1 halogen headlights to bi-LED with the RFL kit. To my surprise, the internals of those brand-new lights have evolved over time. They now have LED bulbs (with fans!) in both the low and high beam positions. Obviously, the inserts and internal clear lenses are also brand-new, and with the LED bulbs they will never get stained. I could either retrofit your lights with these or put them in one of the (many) used headlight sets I have sitting in my basement. PM me or send an email through my website if you would like to explore further!

Whoa! These look great. Is this what I'm getting on mine once you receive it? I like the old school look of the lenses! Thanks, Gary
