Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

30 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Okay so I have a 2003 911 c2 and was wondering what the original tire specs are because I don't have the sticker on the hood like I did on my 1999 911. The rims are 18" carrera 2's I believe. Here are pictures of the rims.

POST 2Original post

The owners manual should have a section that gives the tire specs, sizes, and other tire info. You can visit the dealer. There should be a brochure with this info available or you can visit the parts department and someone there can look up the specs for you. You can visit say TireRack's web site and feed in your car's make/model and year and the OE tires should show up.

POST 3Original post

www.renntech.org is another good source. They have all the Porsche TSBs available online to paying members, including the current list of approved tires, sizes, etc.

POST 5Original post

Heck just go to tire rack and put in make model and year it will spit out a list of all the tires for the car. Need to know 17/18/19" wheel and width would help a lot to narrow down the selection.

POST 6Original post

225/35/18 front and 285/30/18 rear (996.1's had a 265 width in the rear for the extact same size wheel) I think michelin pilot super sports are the updated version of the factory spec tires. And yes, those are the Carrera 2's that were factory option starting in 2002. IMO the best factory wheel for the 996, and will buy them if you ever sell Edit: You might have a wider front tire with those wheels. I think they are 8 inches wide up front (996.1 had 7.5")

My front tire is a 225/40zr18 and the rear is 285/30zr18 so I am assuming it isn't the OEM size but my car is lowered on h&r springs

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12258334

It was an option but my car came out the factory with these rims.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 12258594

Those are the correct sizes.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12258607

Really? I find it odd that my front sidewall is bigger than the rear

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 12258594

This sounds right. The 40 in the 225/40/zr18 just means you have a slightly taller tire than factory spec. Not sure what the reasoning behind this is, maybe I just have the wrong factory numbers for the 996.2

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 12258626

EDIT: I see Dennis got to it.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 12258620

Yup. That's the correct sizing recommended by Porsche. You can verify it on the TSBs from Porsche at the site I mentioned above.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12258626

I think equal sidewall height would look better but if mine are the correct size than I want to keep them that way.

POST 16Original post

That's the correct size for those Carrera 2 wheels. I have the same wheels on my car. Alan

POST 17Original post

After doing some research and listening to Dennis ( he is smarter than I) I was WRONG! You currently have correct sizing for your car.

POST 18Original post

You need a higher aspect ratio at the front to give approximately the same overall tyre diameter due to difference in tyre widths.

How much do you pay for tires on average.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12258644

Thank you! Did the 996.2 come with a sticker that tells you the tire size? My 99 996 had one under the hood and this one doesn't

POST 23Original post

The sticker is on the inside of the fuel filler lid. Gives sizes and inflation specs for both 17" and 18". I think I paid around $1200+ for a set 18" Bridgestone N spec at tirerack.com

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 12258695

All depends on whether you want N spec or not.(runs for cover) Bridgestone S04 sets are about 1100.That's my next set of tires. Prices go up from there. Alan

Got it appreciate the help!

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 12258727

Cool, I never paid attention to the inside of the filler for that information thanks!

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 12258671

Not quite. The fronts still have a significantly larger diameter (~0.4in) 225 40 18 diameter 25.1in revs 804 circumference 78.8in 285 30 18 diameter 24.7in revs 815 circumference 77.7in I have no idea why Porsche didn't go with a slightly lower-profile tire in the front (225 35r18) in the front. Smaller diameter means that you can have a lower car with the same suspension travel. And given the choice I'd rather have a little more sidewall on the rear instead of the front given the weight distribution. From my experience dropping from 19"s to 18"s I can say that 0.5" of suspension travel can make a significant difference.

POST 28Original post

0.4" on diameter gives a height difference of 0.2", makes no difference to the suspension travel and allows the AWD to work on the C4.

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 12260969

Sorry good point. I'm not sure how I missed that. But 0.5" of suspension travel definitely makes a very noticeable difference on handling. I would still bet that 0.2" (with the same springs) would be slightly noticeable. I'll comment more on that in the future since I'm planning on dropping my car by ~1 thread in the near future.
