Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When I degreased and cleaned the engine bay, I just covered up the alternator with some aluminum foil I had laying around.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've had my 996 C2 for about 6 months now and today was the first time I had to wash it (I got caught in a nasty storm yesterday so it was a good excuse as any). While i'm not unfamiliar with washing cars and know most of the concepts (2 bucket system or foam cannon, wash and rinse from the top top down, blower to dry), I was wondering if anyone had any tips that are unique to the 996? It's new to me to have the engine get wet while washing
Use a leaf blower to dry it. Make sure to point it (leaf blower) at the clam shell (convert) seam to make sure all the water is blown out as well as the windows and door handles. Never use a towel (scratch to easily) plus using a blower gets all the excess water in the cracks & crannies of the car cleared out. I do this with all my cars....
I havent washed my 996 yet (only had it a week) but with air cooled 911 I drape a sheet of plastic over the engine (underneath the lid) to keep excessive water from getting into things. Started doing that after an incident where there a car was running rough after a wash. Didnt quite figure out where the water was that caused the problem, and things were fine after it dried out, but seems better to avoid drenching the engine. The 996 engine seems much more tightly sealed up and unlikely to have problems but you never know. And just to be on the safe side leave the keys on the engine under the plastic so you dont accidentally start it up with the plastic sheet still on the engine.
I hope you latch the engine lid with a screw driver, so that you dont accidentally lock yourself out of your car! Great suggestion about the plastic covering and the key placement!
This is the one I purchased. I like it because it is hand-held, and about the size of their drill. It also has 2 different tips and 2 lengths of pipe for the tips.
