Interesting; I had done some early searching and seen that L3A8/9 was the code used for both earlier and later lapis blue BUT it looks like they changed it in 2003

My exhaust is not stock and still using clamps(waiting to get it welded until Ive got everything dialed in) so it can be moved; if tailpipe placement is different between the two bumpers by a little but thats no big deal.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, My 2001 lapis blue cab has a pretty rough looking rear bumper from the previous owner. Ive been thinking about buying a whole replacement rather than having it repainted. My first question is, is a 2002-2004 bumper a possibility from a fitment perspective(bolt holes and body lines and all that)? My exhaust is not stock and still using clamps(waiting to get it welded until Ive got everything dialed in) so it can be moved; if tailpipe placement is different between the two bumpers by a little but thats no big deal. Secondly, the paint codes match between years for lapis blue but what are the oddds that any other bumper would actually match well without a repaint? Ive seen some cars where different car panels/bumpers blend well and others where there is big variation between years for paint colors. Anyone care to wager a guess?

POST 2Original post

Be careful with the color. I am 99% sure that 2002-2004 lapis blue is different than the earlier years. It is darker/more purple.

POST 4Original post

Yes, could be 2003. My 2004 has the later version and they are quite different, with the earlier one looking like metallic blue next to my later Lapis color. I discovered this when I ordered Lapis blue touch up paint and it didn't match!

POST 5Original post

So I put a 996.2 bumper on my 996.1,,,,looks great with 996.1 Aerokit (pictures below). All of the holes line up except for the rear heatshield holes by the stock cats, but they are not critical so I think I left them off. As far as the exhaust tips, they need to be longer for the .2 bumper which bought a stock .2 tip. Worked fine like that. I think the .2 bumper is so much nicer and widens the back of the car.
