Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, My 2004 996 4S is always having some misfire on cold starts, will last for 30 seconds then everything is fine and I don't experience any. Always happens in the morning when I start it to go to work (100 miles everyday round trip). It is my DD and I just had the IMS, RMS changed 5000 miles ago, had new coils and new spark plugs installed at the same time thinking that would fix the issue, but didn't. What could it be? based on the other posts I am going to clean my air filter and the MAF tomorrow (car came with Fabspeed air intake, which I am thinking to remove and go back with the stock). Any other things I should look for? Don't have any durametric for error codes to give more details... sorry. Thanks for the help!

POST 2Original post

I have the Fabspeed intake and don't have any misfire problems. But if it were me, I'd go back to stock and see if that helps. If you have all the parts, it is a cheap and easy test. Properly cleaning the MAF is a good idea. Also I would take a look at your throttle body and make sure it is clean. Use the proper cleaner for the MAF and TB! With it only misfiring at cold start, I would suspect something that could be affected by heat. Check that your rubber/silicone intake boot is tight. If it is leaking when cold, but then expanding when warm it could possibly cause the same issue. Also, go pick up a cheap OBDII scanner and grab any codes. I've seen cheap ones for under $30. While it isn't a Durametric/Snap-On/Autel/etc, it is better than nothing!
