the reason I use these guys is I wanted a bigger cable to carry more amps and I eliminated the Y and ran two cables direct from the rear jumper to the starter and the other for the alternator, be sure to check the Neg cable in the rear also.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After I start the car (cool) in the morning or afternoon and drive it to work or home, if I have to stop for gas or pickup my son then starting the car back is a bit of a challenge. It behaves like it doesn't have enough power to run the starter and I have to turn the key multiple times so that it starts. I am more inclined towards replacing the battery but i am not 100% sure, I took the battery to Autozone and they mentioned that it charged well. has anyone experience this problem before?

POST 2Original post

Does the solenoid click? Any noise at all? Does it crank, but just slowly? The ignition switch is a common failure point. And our starters are getting old. Also, the ground cable to the starter is notorious for getting corroded and not carrying load well. .02

POST 3Original post

Quite common, the Y cable from the rear jumper to the alternator/starter is giving you high resistance. I had the same problem and did a voltage drop test and found it borderline when cold. I had my own cables made by these guys, quick service and no issues even in 100 degree days. the reason I use these guys is I wanted a bigger cable to carry more amps and I eliminated the Y and ran two cables direct from the rear jumper to the starter and the other for the alternator, be sure to check the Neg cable in the rear also. the two cables cost me less than 30 dollars shipped, way less then the OEM replacement. https://www.batterycablesusa.com/

POST 4Original post

Agreed the next thing to check is the y-cable (voltage drop test). If it's not that, then it could be your starter acting up when hot.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks folks, I will check on these items

POST 6Original post

Replacing the starter was sufficient in my case; the symptoms were the same as yours (starts fine cold, starter is really weak once it is heat soaked).

POST 7Original post

First thing I would check is your ground cable at the battery. Make sure it has a nice clean connection to that chassis.

POST 8Original post

It's the Y cable as Ashai and others mentioned. Its worth swapping out the starter while you're there too. Its about a few hours - 1/2 day-full day DIY depending on experience.
