Gbug-I have an oppurtunity to buy set of GT3 wheels, the rears are 11x 18 with ET45, Im concerned they will stick out too far, have you installed a similar size wheel on narrow body.

Suggestion
for the rear if running a 295/30/18 anything from 10-11" will work, but again if you want to make best use of that particular tire size, an 11" wheel would work best.

Suggestion
Reason I ask is because if you go to a wider wheel, not only is there significant time on the table in terms of lap times, but it will also open up your options in terms of wheels as typically track guys run slightly wider wheels and tires.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I currently have an extra set of stock Carrera II wheels on my 2003 996 that I use only on the track. I run RE-71r's on them. They are 18x8 front and 18x10 rear.
I am amazed how heavy they are and I am thinking of getting lighter wheels in conjunction with my suspension overhaul this winter (coilovers, bushings, sways, various other bits to lower and increase negative camber).
What options are there in standard offset and widths that are lighter in weight? I would prefer something that will bolt right on and not need spacers. I am OK with going a little wider but don't want to deal with rubbing issues. Looks are not super important as these are track wheels.
Thanks in advance.
The 5-spoke Carrera Lightweight wheels are a good OEM option, not much heavier than a lot of the quality aftermarket stuff. On TireRack the OZ Alleggerita is pretty light and cheap (but ugly IMO). Anything else seems to be pretty $$$.

I love my CCW C14's. Forged single piece wheels made in the USA with a great track records in various motor sport clubs/organizations. The c10's and C14's are probably my favorite wheel for the 996. I was able to pick up my set in brand new condition from a fellow rennlister for about $2k
My wheel set up is as follows: (Tires are BFGoodrich G-Force Rivals)
Front:
18x9ET44.5mm
245/40/18
Rear:
18x11.5ET60.5mm
315/30/18

I am running 17x7 17x9 Cup II with NT01 (spaced 5mm F 15 mm R gets you back to stock wheel center). Not sure how much traction I'm leaving on the table compared to 8" 10" wheels. But they are lighter by a little over 2lbs/wheel R and just under 1lb/wheel F compared to my Carrera II. That's with tires btw. I'm sure tire selection can be a big part of wheel tire combo weight.
I have a set of OEM lightweight twists just sitting in my garage. Would be great for track days, my C2 felt far more nimble with them on as opposed to the more cumbersome Sport Designs. I have a C4S now so don't need the wheels .....
Are you interested in going faster, or are you constrained to running stock widths wheels do to rules?
Reason I ask is because if you go to a wider wheel, not only is there significant time on the table in terms of lap times, but it will also open up your options in terms of wheels as typically track guys run slightly wider wheels and tires.
So long as you do your homework in terms offsets/fitment, you should be able to run an 8.5 or 9 in the front 11 in the rear. I actually run a 12 in the rear, however I had to roll my fenders in order to do that so I can understand 12 isn't an option for everyone.
In terms of performance, my experience is that performance/track tires work best on the widest wheel with-in manufacturer spec.
so for example a 225/40/18 will work with wheels widths from 7.5-9" a 9" wheel will make the best use of/extract the most performance from that tire size
for the rear if running a 295/30/18 anything from 10-11" will work, but again if you want to make best use of that particular tire size, an 11" wheel would work best.
for 9's and 11's perhaps look into Advan TC3's or see if you can find a good deal on a set of Volk TE37's.
^^Most narrow body twists are solid spokes.
OP--check out the WB hollow spoke turbo twists, you can pick them up for $800-1200 a set and they are pretty light. 8x18ET50 and 11X18 ET 45.
Gbug-I have an oppurtunity to buy set of GT3 wheels, the rears are 11x 18 with ET45, Im concerned they will stick out too far, have you installed a similar size wheel on narrow body. If so did you have any issues?
ET45 are wide body tires and will not work on an NB Carrera.
Tire width and unsparing weight are two places where you can spend a lot of money almost no gain. If you do the calculations, you have to get around 35lbs of unsprung weight reduction to have any noticeable difference.
The biggest factor on width is balance front to back. I ran 245F 275R on my track car and it was wicked fast. The SP996 guys run 245/285 on 8”F and 10”R. You can research your local track by searching Rennpoints Track Records to see what kind of times they are running in basically a C2 with decent (not great) shocks, GT3 sways, and just enough suspension pieces to get decent camber.
correct. Doing some research on the 993 forum, the part numbers on mine indicate they are solid spoke. Comparing their weight to the narrow spokes, the narrows weigh less by approximately 3 kilograms a wheel.
It looks like the OZ Allegheterrhhhia-whatever is the winner. Seems like a good lightweight option at a good price point, and they look good too. For those who have run them what bolts do you use with them? Stock Porsche wheel bolts?
These are one of my favorite upgrades by far. And the comical ends on the studs are much nicer than the flat ends on other brands.

Hey Slakker I have wanted to get sets of those but keep reading threads about them coming loose and backing out which makes me nervous. I had similar studs on my Lotus Elise track car and they worked well with no problems. How long have you had them and have you had any problems?
I’ve used them about a year. It recommends NOT using loctite so I did have one back out on me but that was only when loosening with an impact gun. I had probably 30 track days with them and always check torque at the start of the day and after lunch. I never once had an issue with them coming loose.
