Suggestion

It could be related to battery disconnect though, which triggered the catalytic tests to be re-run and that cat is marginal.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 2001 996 Base Tiptronic Cabriolet has an oil leak from the oil cooler/heat exchanger 996 107 025 57. Can I replace the part without lowering the engine? Will the catalytic converter have a risk of damage if the engine is lowered? Look forward to your experience and advice. Happy Thanksgiving.

POST 2Original post

Please see my response on RennTech in the 996 forum. Happy Holidays! Let us know how it goes.

POST 3Original post

If its an external leak, you probably just need new o-rings.

POST 5Original post

No way... youll wind up dropping the the motor anyway. You may get away with lowering the motor 6-8 but to do so youll have to remove a bunch of stuff anyway. May as well go all the way . Itll be easier in the long run and youll have less chance of breaking things that you dont mean to and/or dont realize you broke...

yeah the aos and oil cooler are a biatch on the 911. On the boxster they are a breeze luckily.

POST 7Original post

The oil cooler can be replaced without removing the engine/trans assembly. The air box, throttle body, center intake, belt, A/C compressor will need to be removed, and coolant drained. Depending on your finessing skills, it can be done from here, or you can loosen the wiring on the 02 sensors from the holders and rear engine mounts and lower the engine onto the cross member. That will lesson the aggravation.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for all your information. My shop lowered the engine and replaced the oil cooler. The check engine light was on with a error code for catalytic converter bank 2. Could this related to lower the engine or removal of the intake on Bank 2?

POST 9Original post

If it's P0430, it's unlikely to be related to lowering the engine. It could be related to battery disconnect though, which triggered the catalytic tests to be re-run and that cat is marginal.
