Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

SO I was driving to work this evening and I was slowing down to go over a speed bump and something flew up and hit my windshield. It scared the crap out of me. I pulled over and what do ya know. My hood crest ripped off the front and blew away. I am looking for a replacement from suncoast and I torn between the new style and this black/silver one with no posts on it. Check it out..

Has anyone used this one before? Since my car is entirely blacked out and I was thinking the black crest would look unique. I'm just not sure how I would mount the black one. What do you all think?
Mine has a tiny bit of play also. I noticed this yesterday when I was washing the car.
If I were to replace it, I would go oem and get the original gold one.
I ended up ordering the gold emblem. I spoke to suncoast and they said many people buy the black emblem even though there is no mounting posts. It is the same size as the factory crest. He also mentioned that you could use doubled-sided tape for the black one as well.
I opted out of it once I heard that. I don't want to loose another crest on the highway.
The Silver and Black Crest was standard on my 2000 C4 and same crest on the airbag steering wheel but smaller. The hood crest is mounted with the same posts as the Gold.
Someone put that there.... Porsche never made a silver crests, they only made gold. All the silver ones out there are aftermarket, even though there might a Porsche number on it. Silver on the steering wheel is by Porsche.
+1 Porsche NEVER made a crest other than the gold.... anything else was aftermarket rather approved by Porsche or not
and that cheaper one looks like hell...I mean its fine on a 997 or a Boxster I guess.. .but not a real Porsche
I ended up buying the silver one on mine. Looks good and I believe it is Original?
Saw this thread too late. I had the gold one available if you wanted
Here is the pic of my original that came off my 99 - Part # 993.559.211.00

The last pic is the silver/black on my hood
yeah, this piece is def an add on.... notice how the badge doesnt snuggly fit the rubber gasket, instead it just rests on top.... this is why these badges flies off... they are not tightened enough.
to fit the rubber gasket around the badge, take a very small screwdriver... dip it in oil run the screwdriver along the edges of the rubber and stretch the gasket passed the edge of the badge. Once passed the badge... press down on the badge so it keeps the gasket in place... once the rubber is fitted the full circumference of the badge... tighten the badge nut under the hood.
here is my aftermarket...
For crests without studs GE Silicon or RTV goes a long way toward retaining them. I used GE Silicon on a spare P-crest years ago on my VW Vanagon and that crest hasn't budged a bit!
Ed & Redridge Ferdinand ... you are both WRONG. The original equipment on my C4 2000 is Silver. In that year Porsche differentiated the C4 model with all silver trim - including the Carrera 4 script and the silver Calipers, & Silver Crest. You can read about this is several articles written at the time.
Same here..2000 C4 with a gold badge. I like the look of the gold badge on Black.
My badge is all snugged up now...it was just a few turns with a nut driver.
Getting the badge to sit in side the gasket is a whole other story. It is way small and needs stretched. Perhaps mine has become brittle with age? I tried Ferdinand's screw driver oil trick but it did not prove to easy. I foresee a big scratch in the hood of my car so I aborted. I also tired heating the gasket up and that helped give it some elasticity but it cooled before I could finish. I think I am going to perform the operation on an old piece of scrap wood with holes drilled in it. Any one else have any luck or have any other tricks?
So I finally got my crest in the mail. It was a bear taking off the old studs (just kept spinning). Got the emblem back on so I'm good to go. Hopefully this one doesn't fly off....
Joe:
I took some time to surf around the threads here today and noted the pic of your custom refinished hood crest. Thanks for posting the pic! That's a brushed nickel plate + satin black automotive enamel we refinished. Bisimoto purchased a number of them from us for resale and we're glad to see pics of our product on your Porsche!
Cheers
I am trying to buy a hood crest from wheeldynamics and they don't answer me any more even we had the deal already. So ******* bad customers service. I had it! Where can I buy red/black/black chrome or red/black/matt black emblem?
We can refinish a factory crest for you in whichever color and finish combination suits you! We also strive to ensure our customer service isn't "****"
