Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have this roof rack, in the box, used once by previous owner, looks new, never used it.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking to get a roof rack for the '03 996. Just want to know from anyone who has one about the potential for paint damage at the connection points. i realize there are rubber gaskets provided in the kit for the prevention of paint damage, but do they really work? I have seen paint get chaffed by accessories (hood bras, trunk mounted bike racks, etc.) and really want to avoid that.
Thanks,
Keith
They are well designed and work perfectly. They contact "inside" of the roof and don't contact the surface of the roof. Look into the attachment points and you can see the the blocks they contact. You will mess up your roof paint only if you drop something on the roof when mounting or dismounting stuff, or mounting the rails to the attachment points.
If you are looking for one I may be willing to sell mine off of my 03. I've used it four times and it will come with all gaskets tools and everything. It has the small ski rack attachment. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.
I use mine once a week. I get slot of stares from people because I use it for surfing and my skateboards. They don't scratch the paint unless you when you're going to install them onto the car and you scratch the paint. Other than that you're golden.
The hood bras will damage paint because they just grind against the paint all the time. With these, you'll be good...
(Obligatory 996 pictures with my freshly redone wheels)
This is amazing and my plan as well (fellow surfer here, but moving to the other coast). Ever tried to put a shortboard inside on the passenger seat? Does it fit? I've got a 6'4''..
Anyways, I'm just about finishing the purchase of my first 996 C2, a few hours from now I'll be driving down the road. So very excited!
Here is a link to an alledgedly like new kit - no relation to me, I just missed out on a kit for the 996 Cab - went for around $250. This guy is asking $450 + S&H. Don't know if that is a good or bad price.

Suncoast has new ones for $579.95 btw.
Best of luck with the purchase. Post pics when you get it man. The old passenger seat surf board storage haha. I have a 5'11 here at my work garage that I test for for you. A 6'4 will fit just fine. Just make sure you're careful with getting it in.
That's amazing! Thanks so much. Haha, now I know that I don't necessarily need to put up roof racks.
Purchase went through, drove a few hundred miles, now at a weird motel for the night, picking up the lady tomorrow, then across the country. Boom! What a life...
Thanks! They're oem turbo twists that came with the car. They had some love marks on them so I had them refinished. The color is satin platinum. It's a new Porsche color for their wheels.
I have this roof rack, in the box, used once by previous owner, looks new, never used it. I keep saying I'm gona put it on one day...I think I paid 350-380. I will have to find the receipt, in O'side CA, if anyone is interested.
