Does anyone know if I can put a later model 997 hard top onto a 996 if I change the mounts on the car from bayonet to screw-on type?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does anyone know if I can put a later model 997 hard top onto a 996 if I change the mounts on the car from bayonet to screw-on type? Specifically trying to put a 997.2 hard top onto a 996.1. Thanks!!

POST 2Original post

THATS the only difference make sure what type of receiver (bayonet or screw) is IN THE CAR to match what the top has!

POST 3Original post

Also be aware if you are not, that the top needs to be fitted to the car. It isn't like replacing a spark plug. Especially if you swap out the screws for Bayonets. Here are the instructions. First measuring points and what bolts to adjust. Here are the tolerances:

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the heads up I was actually planning on doing the opposite: Swapping my bayonets for screws on the car, and then using it as a screw in set up. Will that save me some heartache, or are there still issues with that path?
