Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had same problem with my car, no "unlocking" tool I used a set of these for CAD $32

Why even bother replacing them, just use regular lug bolts
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

cannot find it in the tool kit or in the jack pouch.
the tool kit looks untouched since day 1 (it still has the new glove in the plastic bag).
just hate to find it later after a trip to the dealer
thanks
p.s I am a second owner since last May
That's a wheel lock.
Not sure if the 996s came standard with them, but my wheel lock key was in my tool bag. If yours is missing, i'd get the old locks removed and order new ones.
Why even bother replacing them, just use regular lug bolts
IIRC, you can hammer on a regular 19mm, maybe a 20 mm socket and get it off
A dealer can also remove it as they have a full set of the lock bolt keys
Get rid of the wheel locks. This sort of thing happens WAY too often. How many have had wheels stolen? Almost no one. I assume you are not routinely parking the car over night in the Bronx.
Yup, I second Johnireland suggestion. The tool kit was the second item I verified was in the car in it's entirety including the wheel lock prior to purchasing it.
As far as your dilemma, I'd find a cheap tire shop in the barrio and have them remove the locks or search on ebay or scrap yard for a similar key. Otherwise I suggest remove and replace.
so I looked and looked but could not find the damn key. The car came with the Porsche car cover/bag. Figured it would not hurt to open the bag and check it out. While I was rolling out the cover, the key dropped out. I did order 4X lugs to replace these locked lugs
thanks all
That's a relief! Now, if you can't find your owner's manual, it's usually in the glove compartment or if you have a Mk1, it's located under the steering wheel.
Let us know if you need anything else.
^^Goodness, that was a fiasco thread wasn't it? I mean if poor NC-KK had just gone to the last mechanic first, he would have saved tons of $$$ and a lot of frustration. In the end, it's all about choosing your battles and/or moving on.
