Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

There is a bussiness model for the second and easy to find, but you will have to send them the Trans to repair....( G-Box or CMS )
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 99 996 C2, 6 speed manual. My pinion shaft bearing is going and I'm trying to find a shop in Canada to do the job. 4 shops in and around Halifax/Dartmouth, Nova Scotia won't even look at it. I find this is very odd as this isn't the first one to go in Canada, I wouldn't think. I know the bearings are expensive and I don't want to buy a used transmission as I feel mine is fine, other than the whine of the bearing and I don't want someone else's junk. I feel having mine rebuilt is the best option. Also, there are not many ofthese transmissions for sale. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
I have helped many people over the years DIY the pinion bearings and syncro's in here ... There are quite a few threads on the procedures and tools needed . ( like a 30-50 Ton Press)
The problem you have is that someone who "can do it " and someone who " guarantees they can do it" are two separate things...
There is no business model for the first so finding someone will be "difficult and risky"...

Thanks Porschtec3! I have yet to hear anything good about one of the place you mentioned, so I may look into the other. I do not have access to the press needed to do this job, so I will either have to try to find a rebuilt one or start parting the car out! It's a great car with 40,000kms on the rebuilt engine. I'm not sure if it's worth putting $10,000 into a $20,000 car.
Yea I hear you...It would be a crying shame to part out a good car over a couple of ball bearings....
Maybe place an add in Rennlist Market Place ISO someone to rebuild a G96 Transmission might dig up someone with the skillz/equipment to do it and save car from " part-out" ...
I might not rule out shipping to a US rebuilder. The LTL freight carrier I use covers US and Canada. Getting to the pinion bearing is a bunch of work. I rebuild 'em.
