He changed a large unit on top of the gas tank under the battery after a smoke test.

Since the Aos job, I replaced the MAFS exact same Bosche.

I can not find a 911 being smoke tested on YouTube but I see lots of other makes of cars.

Tested a few of the switch over valves when I was in there.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys. If you were to do a smoke test for leaks on the EVAP system of the 996, which point of entry would you use? I can not find a 911 being smoke tested on YouTube but I see lots of other makes of cars. Thanks.
If your talking about the A/C evap., we don't do smoke test on the evap, get a vacuum pump and gauges, suck the system down and check to see if it holds a vacuum. at least I haven't heard of anyone doing smoke test on them.... NA intake systems yes. turbo's intake i use press test with soap and water.
I used a smoke m/c to test my vacuum system when the engine was on the stand after a complete rebuild. Much easier than when installed.
I have not tested the Evap system that remained attached to the car. The Evap faults seem to be mainly no functioning valves -like the regeneration valve or the ones under the wheel liner on the fuel filler tube. Smoke will not be helpful for that.
What do the Durametric tests of the Evap system show/do ?
If you think there is a split hose somewhere, you will need to use a large capacity machine on a warm day because the capacity of the system is large and if the 'smoke' is the type that cools easily, you will never see it escaping from the leak.
Easiest to start with Durametric I think?
Schnell I got a PO 446. Found a small pipe disconnected behind the Alternator. Repaired it and right now hope the CEL does not come back on. Tested a few of the switch over valves when I was in there. One in particular has me worried. The electric switch on the front top of Alternator. It does switch ok but when it is closed (which it is with no electric on it) I can blow smoke (Not via the center but the one on the side) through it which comes out around the small plastic cap but not out of the center. I don't think it should do that but who knows. Do you? God only knows what the small cap is for. A good one should be all closed until it opens when volts are applied. Mine does do that. So I take it that it is working OK. If not its easy to change without removing the alternator AGAIN.
I agree with the wait & see the CEL proposal. I hope you lubed 'that' bushing on the back of the alternator and the tensioner bolt head does not slip around next time !!
Well the CEL came on again this morning. Here is a full run down of work so far. about 3 months ago I got a CEL. I needed a job on the gearbox and a pre maintenance AOS as well so I had an INDI do it. Then I told him about the CEL which has never been cured so far. After about 60 miles of normal driving under 3000 revs I got the po1124 and po1126 when stopped idling at a red light this morning AGAIN. At that time it was idling at 800revs or slightly under. Never had white smoke. Car runs great. Since the Aos job, I replaced the MAFS exact same Bosche. I or should I say, WE, have been getting a CEL for months. Work done so far Carbon filter shut off valve, also the double valve at top of carbon canister next to gas tank locking door. He changed a large unit on top of the gas tank under the battery after a smoke test. New same oil filler cap. I am running out of ideas. Another smoke test may be in order. What dyu all think? BTW Schnell I got the bushing loose on the alternator. I can remove it and replace it now with my eyes closed. I have done it 5 times already trying to solve these PO1124 PO1126 codes for CEL.lol.
I understand your frustration. The source of the problem may be well hidden and difficult to access. You could remove a lot of parts ,test and still miss a fault- easily.
That is why I like using propane. It won't help with evap at all.But you seem to have covered the evap issues. It seems(??) the problem is in the engine vac system, not the evap. system
The Youtube Propane tests I mentioned previously may help you ?
