Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I removed my front seats the other day and noticed that there were significant segments of insulation missing from a few strands of wire. This is all part of the harness underneath the seats. Harness was loose so it wasn't pinched or caught in anything. Now there is a section of bare exposed sheet metal without carpet with metal layering underneat the seat. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this before? Thinking it's either possible abrasion from rubbing on something or mice ate the insulation in the past sometime? Either way good ol electrical tape to the rescue.

POST 2Original post

Doesnt look like mice. Looking at the copper i would cut out and butt connect the wires back together. Also, they r borh ground wires.

POST 3Original post

I agree, looks like physical damage. Either way, don't just tape it. That wire is really damaged and could alter the way something is getting a ground and it will drive you nuts if you ever have a problem! Cut it out, get same gauge wire and solder in new piece and insulate with shrink tube and high quality tape. Also find where it was potentially rubbing

POST 4Original post

It looks like your wires are getting caught and ground up by seat movement. I'd repair as suggested above. AND wrap up the wiring as below. AND check wire clearance when you move the seat. I found the narrow cloth tape on ebay.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the feedback guys, I ended up repairing it and insulating with some good cloth electrical tape. For future protection I used some of the split cable sleeve over all the exposed wiring. It's very easy to install, just have to make sure you use the appropriate size. Here is a link incase anyone is interested link incase anyone is interested
