Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought my 996 Turbo in 2018 it was the standard grey with all black leather interior. I always intended brightening it up so I had it wrapped straight away in a gloss red. Once out in the sunlight the wrap had a really bad eggshell dimple effect that everyone commented on I was not happy with the end result. I decided not long after to have it wrapped in a matt finish after doing a bit more research. The wrappers then had a nightmare as one side of the car and a few other spots had been painted over the years and it came off with the wrap! It had to go to a body shop to be rectified before the matt wrap. I then set about the interior with some carbon dipping and new leather trim. 5 years later someone reversed into my car on a car park without leaving any sorry note etc. I then realised my wrap had faded over the 5 years and rewrapping the bumper wasn't an option it was now 2 different colour's with the new vynil. I yet again decided on another wrap but this time I found a wrapper only a few miles from me here in the UK where the old TVR factory used to be called Shadow Wraps who are on Facebook. The latest gloss wraps are a lot better re the eggshell issue and as I preferred the red gloss actual colour more than the matt I ended up with I went for a gloss yellow. Sure enough taking the wrap off resulted in more paint and lacquer peeling! As I had to have the bumper repaired at another body shop I had the whole car prepped. The wrap turned out great Shadow Wraps were brilliant and did a fantastic job compared to my original wrapper. I love the colour. Next up I decided to go way over the top and retrim my interior. I love yellow cars with red interiors so back to my trimmer The Trim Technician near Blackpool where John did another great job. I realise the colours and choices I've made will not be to everyone's taste but hey I love it and compared to the original silver car I bought 8 years ago it def puts a smile on most people's faces 😉👍

POST 2Original post

Well I like it. Original clearcoat on these cars is very susceptible to lifting with wrap removal. When I took the wrap off my 968 it trashed the original clearcoat and was very expensive to respray. My current 996 was wrapped when I bought it, but had also already been resprayed. Night and day difference pulling the wrap, no damage at all.
