Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

On my 2000 Millenium Ed, which is a C4 coupe manual. Just popped up out of nowhere, suddenly, after I had parked it for a couple hours, then got in and started driving it and then heard it. Im guessing its a wheel bearing or axle. Sounds similar to a warped rotor scraping the warning tab on a worn out brake pad, but the brakes are fine back there. Im taking it to my Indy shop next week, but just wondering what I might should expect. I'm new to 911s, what is back there that could be wearing out, needing replacement, etc...? Just recently bought the vehicle, but have records showing the rear wheel bearings were replaced in 2015, 33k miles ago. Any ideas, likely culprits? Thanks for any input.

POST 2Original post

I have heard of instances where debris gets stuck between the rotor and backing plate. A quick visual check might suffice. A wheel bearing would slowly deteriorate, not all of a sudden. Or, jack it up and spin the wheel and see if you can locate the source of the noise.

POST 3Original post

Swap wheels left & right to rule out an internal tire failure. While the wheels are off look to see if there's anything stuck inside the wheel or elsewhere that could be hitting something.

POST 4Original post

E brake shoes stuck/rubbing. Just a guess, since it started after parking. On another Porsche I had one of the ebrake springs come loose, it made a crazy racket and took forever to solve.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, those are all good ideas. On the parking brake, when I pull it up, it doesnt feel like a normal parking brake engagement. There is little resistance and then it just stops. Not normal to me where it gets harder and harder until it stops. But this is my first 911 and I just bought it so Im not sure how the handbrake in a 911 normally feels. So when the car was in the shop recently, I told them that and they said they adjusted it, but it feels about the same. Anyway, I will check these things out, Thanks

Well, title of your thread is " Whomp whomp noise" the exact words used in the classic complaint from internal tire problems. Just as theprf said above. And It does sound exactly like WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP..... Usually from belt separation, possibly from running very low on air at some point in the tires life. good chance little rubber ***** would be inside the tire from it coming apart internally. Or just a defective tire. But, then you say it sounds like the squeal of a worn brake pad senor...???? 2 totally different sounds/noises. So now I'm baffled. What is it, a squeal, a scraping, or a whomp whomp..? lol....

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well it sounds like a thud thud at higher speed, but more of a scrape scrape at low speed. Im about to jack it up right now and pull the wheel and investigate. Im now thinking its the parking brake sticking or out of adjustment
