Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was wondering if anyone else with a C4S cab has put a spoiler on the back. I found a thread from 2005 that shows that the Turbo deck lid is the exact same measurements as the C4S cab. Some minor mods have to be done like moving the air pump (already done due to fabspeed intake) and air box mods (hoping fabspeed won't interfere). Other than that is suppose to be a bolt on and the spoiler is suppose to be plug and play. I found a Turbo deck lid on Ebay in Seal Grey (hell yeah! no painting needed) that the seller claims is in excellent condition and all spoiler components are working.

POST 2Original post

Get out of my head, I found a thread last night on this very thing. I didn't post any questions about it because I didn't want to hear all the reasons why I shouldn't do it. I like my C4s but can't stand the plain deck lid. I thought about having the third brake light in the spoiler filled in so there ins't a fourth brake light. Yes, I will remove the turbo emblem.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15596968

Emblem will be gone the second UPS delivers it. I am not about to be a poser that claims my car is something it is not. I love my C4S. But agree that its bare back just dosen't look right. I don't even plan on re-badging it. I also understand this conversion only works for cabs and not coupes.

POST 4Original post

If you measurements, let me know. I have one in the attic of the garage. I thought I read that they dont fit, but I hope they do for your sake.

POST 5Original post

One of the things learned that last night. Here's my C4S JT0MqsX.jpg

POST 6Original post

Not to hijack, but I'd love to have measurements. I'm watching a few lids on auction site and haven't pulled trigger yet until I'm sure it fits cab.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hope for me it works out. I already pulled the trigger and paid 1k for the complete decklid. Guess i will find out next week when it arrives.

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 15596996

I think it will, 1k bucks is a great deal if paint is nice. Have you thought about the extra brake light? Or don't care? I've been trying to figure out how I want to handle it.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15596984

love the guards red. Also agree with having a hard top. Mine didnt come with one so i waited 3 months before i found a new one on ebay i picked up for 500. Hard top changes the car inside and out.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15596999

i had a tough time finding one for a decent price. Most i found for 1500 were just the lid completely stripped. When i found a complete one for 1400 in my color i had no choice but to haggle. Within minutes it was paid for at 1k.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15596978

+1 for the measurments. It will make me really happy or cry.

POST 13Original post

I think you'll be able to fit it, and it will look great. Good luck! The next question will be: what's the condition of the hydraulics needed to lift the spoiler at speed? This is a known and fairly common failure point on 996/997 turbo rear spoilers. They can be rebuilt, replaced with OE components (expensive), or replaced with an aftermarket electric motor/kit to raise the spoiler. Hopefully yours will be working fine.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The seller claims the hydraulics are in perfect working order. He says he only changed the deck lid because he swapped to a GT2 deck lid. All i can do is hope he is truthful and roll the dice.

POST 15Original post

There is a thread (I believe at 6speed?) where someone put a turbo lid on a C4S. The airbox had to be modified to make the hydraulics fit.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15598505

Thats the thread that made me commit to ordering it. My assumption is that since i already have a fabspeed cold air intake and not a stock gigantic airbox i wont have an issue.

POST 17Original post

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15598714

Not the same. Someone stuck a turbo emblem on a c4s. You can tell its a C4S decklid still by the long reflector. That car is also not a cabriolet. The cab needs extra clearance for the clam shell to open and not hit the spoiler. High rise spoilers like the one pictured would be in the way of the clam shell.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It worked! And only took minutes to put one. Gotta figure out the fan. But only had a few minutes between work and an apointment. Just couldnt wait till the weekend to try.

POST 20Original post

Looks great. Received mine the other day. Of course I need to paint it. Good news it fits with the evoms kit, maybe I'll just go that route. Does the wing wiring really just plug right in? I'd love to see a rear shot if you get time. VNLw3QJ.jpg

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Fits like a glove and Plug and Play with no issue. Spoiler rises and lowers just like the old one. No warning lights on the dash. The only other mod i had to do was to relocate the fan. The Turbo fan is mounted dead center. It hit my fabspeed intake. I cut plexi glass to fit in a similar spot as the original C4S lid. Your car is a coupe and it fit? I was under the understanding the is bolt on for Cabs only? Ignore my ugly tail lights. Ordered LED lights last night!

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 27Original post

I have a C4S Cab as well and really like the look of the turbo spoiler. However; I really like the look of the red reflector across the rear and would hate to lose that for the turbo spoiler. I wonder if I could make a frankenstein lid with both. It would require some fab skills for sure.

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 15716887

When i was doing research to figure out if it was possible i ran across a lot of turbo guys who wanted the c4s reflector. If you google 996 turbo with a C4S reflector you will find people have done it. Didn't pay attention to how as it wasnt what i wanted. but anything is possible if you want it bad enough.

POST 29Original post

It looks like mashaw makes one with the wing locked in the up position. http://www.mashaw.com/html/product_info.html

POST 30Original post

Ive got a 996 turbo wing (original equipment) with the wing in a fixed position (slightly raised) that Id sell. I bought it for a project and never got around to it. Now that we know it fits a c4s cab without modification, could be an easy plug and play mod for someone in the Northeast (within driving distance of Vermont).

Im searching for a Silver 996 C4S Cab decklid. If youre reading this and have one available, please contact me.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have my original decklid in peefect condition but its seal grey. But its for a cab. Pretty sure coupe and cabs are different

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 16318818

Thanks Mbred1979, Note on 996 carrera deck lid dimensions & compatibility: Turbo and Cabriolet deck lids are equal in size and interchangeable. Turbo and Coupe are not equal. Cabrio and Coupe are not equal. *Third brake lights are not in the same location for turbo and cabriolet.

POST 34Original post

Gnames, is there also a distinction between C2/C4 "narrow body" and C4S "wide body" coupes? Since the C4S shares the turbo body, does the turbo decklid fit?

POST 35Original post

If someone with a C4S cab wants to trade their decklid for the one from my Turbo (preferably in the Seattle area), shoot me a PM.

POST 36Original post

Quotes source post: 16320508

Great question cds72911, To the best of my knowledge, the Turbo and C4S deck lid are not compatible unless it’s from a C4S Cabrio. Third brake light panel dimensions on the turbo are different because there’s no light, on the turbo it’s been integrated into the wing. The C4S has the separate brake light body panel between glass and lid. Now on the Cabrio, the clamshell panel has an integrated third brake light. I’m not sure why the turbo is like that from a practical engineering standpoint or what systems are involved that would require a difference in panel spacing to not allow compatibility with the C4/C4S... I’m picking up a 996 Turbo tomorrow so I’ll check into that some more. As mentioned I’m looking for an Arctic Silver C4S Cab deck lid if anyone wants to sell theirs, please contact me. The C4/C4S coupe are compatible if that was the intent of your question... they’re plug and play Using this top corner of my C4 as the visual reference point they were both 38.5” wide

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 16322404

Yes, this was my question, and I guessed wrong. Thank you for the response. I had assumed the C4S had the same dimensions, since the bodies appear similar. I didn't even consider that they would have different panels above the decklid because of the stoplight.

POST 38Original post

... the turbo’s panel contains the rear wiper and motor assembly instead of a third brake light.

POST 39Original post

Hi all. Reviving this. I just picked up a 2004 C4S cab and I want to install the turbo decklid. I would update the hydraulics to electric. But from what I read in this thread I just have to find a turbo decklid from same year and its plug n play including the harness for the wing to raise? Is that all true? Just have to find one online or from a Porsche parts guy? I plan on changing the stock airbox to a rennline or equivalent. Let me know thanks.

POST 40Original post

If anyone has a c4s decklid they are looking to sell LMK. I prefer Arctic Silver If possible. Please PM me
