I'm a believer in "while I'm in there" so when I replaced my RMS/IMS I also replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and the fork/pivot/clip with the latest versions.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For those who have replaced their clutch did you upgrade to the newer 997 Fork/Pivot/Clip for around $125? I've read a few posts about it and it seems to cure a rattle that I don't have so I'm leaning to just reinstalling with a new TO bearing. My records show a prior owner warranty replacement of the flywheel ~40k miles ago due to noise, but the fork setup was kept original and I've had no problems, smooth as butter for me. Labor is my own but I wouldn't be thrilled if this is some eventual problem I'll need to go back in and fix. Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Did it on mine a few years ago when the engine and tranny was out, seemed like a good time to do it and the cost was negligible compared to all the other stuff I replaced. Cant say much about what difference it made, had only owned the car a short time, but felt good to have it done.

POST 3Original post

I'm a believer in "while I'm in there" so when I replaced my RMS/IMS I also replaced the clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and the fork/pivot/clip with the latest versions. It just seemed like a good time to replace what I could; it's not like I would ever go back in there later for only rattling clip. But it's hard to say if I actually avoided an issue or just wasted money. I'm ok with that though.

Yeah, the whole clutch is a "while I'm in there" thing while I do the IMSB along with the oil cooler o-rings, AOS and RMS. The clutch fork assembly TSB was one I didn't find out about til after I ordered all the other parts, also it was not a problem and not likely to be one type. But, still, might as well and just placed another order for the parts.

What are the advantages to the 997 clutch fork and pivot pin that make them better than the 996 parts?
