I used WD40 and well deal with it if it gets sticky again.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm new here as I've just bought my first Porsche, a 2001 C2 M6 Cabriolet. Having a blast getting to know the car, but I have an issue:
The gas pedal is not smooth. Some of the time it works fine, but quite often it feels as though there's some extra resistance and needs more effort than it should. I've searched here and on Google and not found any clues. Looking at the pedal (this is the throttle by wire system) the pedal pushes on a ball-end metal shaft. The ball end does not seem to locate positively on the back of the pedal. I think that it might be damaged? Is the ball end supposed to be firmly located on the back of the pedal? I'm guessing that there was a clip system on the pedal to hold the ball end in place. I suspect that when I'm driving the shaft moves a little at times and the ball rests on the next groove up the pedal.
Thanks for any insight.

Ths ball just snaps into a plastic socket. There is no clip. A pedal from a dismantler is not that much, i would just swap it out. The pedals r very reliable and im sure a used one would be fine. Its possible someone swaped the foot rest for an aftermarket (more track friendly) platform and damged the assembly somehow? I broke the socket when installing the Numeric pedal.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking its broken. Theres no socket on the back of my pedal just a circle of plastic.
Ive been looking on eBay but that was a better deal than I found - ordered!

I thought Id post a follow up for any others who have this problem in the future.
I took another look at the back of the pedal w the help of some phone photography. The socket for the ball end looked intact so I removed the pedal for closer inspection. I was able to reattach the shaft to the pedal but it took a lot of force and I had to jam a screwdriver into the bottom of the pedal assembly to get enough force on it.
Fortunately I was able to cancel the part order on eBay so saved a few $$.
I should have done this in the first place but did not expect it to need that much force to get it in there.
Mineis notchy and almost seems as if it needs some WD40.....is that what yours felt like? Just not smooth......I wonder if I shouldn't pull it off and spray some WD40 on it?
Yes, that describes the symptoms well. I would check that the ball end of the rod is located in the back of the pedal correctly. If it is theres a thread here that describes (with photos) taking the pedal assembly apart to clean and lube it.
Avoid WD-40 as it is designed to repel water once the solvent dries. As a result, it gets sticky. Use a dry lubricant if the ball is clean. Or some light oil. Also lubricate the cable going into the sheath as it can bind too.
I put a Rennline throttle pedal in my car. Ball bearings, very smooth action. I did it to improve heel/toe action which it also helped with. A tad pricey -- I picked mine up when they put them on sale.
