Have already installed the 3rd radiator, looking to reduce oil temps during hard driving.
Leading evidence: 'Install 3rd radiator, looking' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install 3rd radiator, looking' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I believe some folks have fitted Accusump systems; a search turns up several threads.

I just had my engine lowered a couple of years ago and had a field day with the "while you are in there virus" replacing alot of things for the next decade of trouble free driving.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Trying to avoid the while I am in there disease that I seem to have contracted.
99 Carrera 2, 41K miles never tracked this is a around the town sort of car.
Im replacing the compressor and so while it is out... I thought about the oil cooler behind it. I get a real good look at it and it looks pristine from the outside. No signs whatsoever of leaks/seepage.
Is there any merit to replacing these (or just the seals) preventatively? Id assume a failure would be messy with coolant/oil mixing.
Its an easy virus to get.
I just had my engine lowered a couple of years ago and had a field day with the "while you are in there virus" replacing alot of things for the next decade of trouble free driving. Yep, I replaced the oil cooler as well. Not an expensive part and its just one of those things I wanted to make sure it and its seals were fresh. No reason for oil cooler intermix of i could easily prevent it. My only regret was I didnt replace the high pressure and low pressure powet steering hoses when the engine was out. Sprung a leak about 1 year after all the service. Would been cheaper and easiet to do it when the engine was out.
So yeah, I am a fan of "while you are in there" to save some money and prevent headaches when you least expect it.
Yeah I get it!
Question and its not a big deal but do you know if its feasible to remove the right intake without disassembling the whole deal (back all the way to the plenum) seems to me thats all you need to remove along with the power steering reservoir and compressor to get at it.
Then again going to the plenum would allow for the oil filler neck to be replaced !

makes a great point. Skip and others have mentioned that to be able to maximize the "bigger" cooling capabilities of the 3.8 cooler on the 3.6 or 3.4, you should add the center radiator since the oil cooler is a heat exchanger and needs the coolant for cooling.
2000 911, often tracked...looking for oil cooler options. Have already installed the 3rd radiator, looking to reduce oil temps during hard driving. I have heard a 997 oil cooler fits, and is bigger, but I cant seem to find any discussions with specifics. What other options are there for additional oil cooling effectiveness?
I will eventually put one on to see if it does help. But havent done it yet. It makes sense that it can help.
LN has two oil cooling options.
The first option removes the oil cooler and runs a pipe to where the muffler resides and runs a cayenne cooler in its place. This option means that you have to run euther a center muffler or remove the muffler and run straight pipes.
The second cooling option is to run the oil cooler in its current place as well as attached a second cooler in the muffler area. You will also have to run a center muffler or straight pipes.
Both were developed for club racing. The second option is designed, but you have to call LN to order one and they will make it. The first option is on their website.
I can verify that the 997.1 oil cooler fits a 996.2. It's tight but it fits. I can't speak for 996.1 engines.
I believe some folks have fitted Accusump systems; a search turns up several threads. That would add capacity and piping, which might aid in shedding heat. Larger oil capacity would also help, such as a deep sump. These solutions have their downsides, such as added complexity and less ground clearance.
