Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are there any supporting mods/upgrades that should be considered when going from a 3.4 to a 3.8? Our 996.1 block is currently at LN engineering for new Nikasil liners and the 3.4-3.8 upgrade. With the increase in displacement, will there be any issues with the car running with the factory tune and equipment? I've read conflicting things online about sometimes a 3.8 car runs lean but I wanted to get a definitive answer. Is it recommended to get a tune or a larger throttle body to compensate for the increase in displacement? Thanks

My 3.8 was optimized on a chassis dyno . The stock ECM will do some learning on its own but that learning is somewhat limited . In my last job I witnessed over 180 Porsche engines go across the chassis dyno . Not one had great air/fuel ratios out of the box . External electronic tuning got them all dead nuts perfect . If you can find a good tuner shop it is well worth the $$$ . Knowing the AFR is perfect across the board is priceless , especially on a big dollar build .
