Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When I did my brakes 6 or 7 years ago I used the same exact products you have on your list.
Leading evidence: 'Use same exact products you have' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace brake lines' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
After 25 years of muck on the streets you may need a caliper rebuild some day as well as replace the brake lines.

I like keeping things relatively stock and with this project I was looking for street+ performance that maintained the core stock authenticity with some modifcations for my use case.
Use case is occasional commuter / weekend spirited mountain drive

I did research because I was curious, but the $ to do so (new BBKs, used GT3s as others have mentioned, etc.) is really overkill at least for my use case, and probably for most with a base convertible.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I have been working on my 2000 996 base cabriolet for a few years now, one major project at a time. My recent project was complete suspension overhaul, so now going to tackle the brakes.
My use case is occasional commuter / weekend spirited mountain drive. I like keeping things relatively stock and with this project I was looking for street+ performance that maintained the core stock authenticity with some modifcations for my use case. Below is my shopping list (so far):
Sebro Slotted Rotors (RMeuropean)
Troutman Steel Braided Brake Lines (RMeuropean)
Akebono EUR917 Ceramic Brake Pads (ECS Tuning)
ATE Type 200 fluid (ECS Tuning)
Porsche caliper components (Pelican Parts / Gaudin Porsche Parts)
G2 Black 2-part Caliper paint (G2 USA)
Porsche Decals (Suncoast)
In terms of research, I found lots of great sub-project references, but nothing that did it all or for my specific use case. For those not tracking their cars and looking for a comprehensive benchmark, I thought I would offer my project up as a guide. Having said that, I am no expert and welcome feedback and considerations as I go along. As I go through the project, I'll post pics and more details on process and why I made the product choices above.
Next step... removal of my well worn calipers, rotors and brake lines!
When I did my brakes 6 or 7 years ago I used the same exact products you have on your list. Completely happy with them.
The only difference with me was that I did brakes and suspension all in one job.
In spite of the car being in San Diego it's whole life and having under 40k on the clock, the stock brake lines were hard as a rock.
Funny enough I just refreshed the suspension on mine and am about to do the brakes too. I'm seeing a handful of options with different size rotors, which size are you going with?
I already did braided lines.
In the next few weeks I'm doing
Brembo OEM looking/style rotors (I like originality look)
GT3 master cyl
Dixcel ES Type pads
Do 996s need upgraded brakes outside of lines and fluid? The stock brakes seem fantastic to me, and speaking to a 996 turbo owner online he tracks his monthly on stock components.
The color combo on your car is amazing btw, the dark blue top is *chef's kiss*
For the street its the usual brake fluid, brake pads and rotors when needed. After 25 years of muck on the streets you may need a caliper rebuild some day as well as replace the brake lines. The Porsche brakes are pretty damn good and durable.
If you want better braking then you will need to upgrade your pads and rotors. Some want a better feel and go for a 997 GT3 master cylinder which is a direct bolt on for non- pasm cars. For pasm cars you need a little modification.
Thanks. I love the look on my car, which is why I decided not to paint the calipers red or another color that would distract from overall look. I did consider matching the zenith blue but worried about how that unique color (which can shift from the blue you see to deep purple depending on lighting) could actually be matched. In the end, its personal choice about what makes you most happy.
in regards to upgrades, the stock brakes are quite robust. I did research because I was curious, but the $ to do so (new BBKs, used GT3s as others have mentioned, etc.) is really overkill at least for my use case, and probably for most with a base convertible. Having said that, I went the route of rebuilding calipers (at 97k) and upgraded components (rotors, pads, lines, fluid) for a combination of better feel and subtle improvement of an already solid system. Regardless of what you do, I have seen plenty of posts from others that did a completely stock job feeling great simply refreshing their system.
Yeah, you can go hog wild on brakes if you are a track rat. In fact I encourage it. Nothing better than bigger and stronger brakes.
But for the street its all about refreshing the basic common sense stuff because the OE system gives you more than you really need on the street
