I choose to keep it lubricated rather than rip it out to ensure that the car remains as driveable as possible for Mrs.

I know the spring isn't broken, so my question is: is there a way to lubricate the clutch helper spring assembly?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
Recently the clutch helper spring on my 2000 996 started making a groaning/creaking noise when I press the clutch pedal. I know the spring isn't broken, so my question is: is there a way to lubricate the clutch helper spring assembly? I know that Porsche says that there's no need to grease it, but I'm not sure what else to do.
Thanks-
Rob
The documentation I've seen indicates that you
shouldn't
lubricate it, which is more than semantically different than you
don't need
to lubricate it. As with most unsolicited advice, I elected to ignore it. White lithium grease has not interfered with its performance to the best of my knowledge.
I choose to keep it lubricated rather than rip it out to ensure that the car remains as driveable as possible for Mrs. Schnell.
I lubed mine, it reduced the groaning. I used Boeshield. Maybe white lithium grease would have eliminated all the groan. Anyway, in the picture the purple thing is the exposed end of the groaning spring. The tape and allen wrench are not factory parts, I was converting from the quiet factory spring with no clutch feel to the groaning spring with clutch feel. Somehow I remember there being a do not lube sticker on the housing.
I did better (read worse), WD-40! one shot and no more noise... Not sure about after effects though, only been 2 months but still no noise or other side effects..
I greased mine with O-ring safe white motorcycle chain grease. Recon that does not degrade the plastics within the part. Though it groans a bit.
Anybody who can suggest a replacement spring, that might be a bit more powerfull?
The typical spring replacement is to go less powerful to be able to feel the clutch grab. Lots of owners have changed the spring. If your spring is purple, like the picture above, it is the stock spring.
Yes we all have different needs, I have no issues with the feel of the clutch. Have read several threads with people removing the spring to stop them getting embarrassed because of halting the engine. I am looking for a lighter clutch feel.
Reviving this old thread in hopes of info. I think my spring on my 996.2 has snapped. My clutch effort is high (and it's a new clutch with OEM parts). I drove a 99 996 with the stock spring and the clutch effort was WAY TOO LIGHT. Like a Honda Civic. I stalled 2x since I could not feel the engagement point.
Is there a replacement spring that is weaker than the stock porsche spring, so I can lower my clutch effort a little bit... but not a ton?
