Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace fuse b1, b9 and b10' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace alternator myself, i sacrificed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

: The revs meter worked, the speedometer (To the left) didnt, and the LCD speed meter wasnt working either - Tested the ABS sensors yesterday and they gave me the reading, so it wasnt an abs issue.

Use purely common since approach, if the speedo was working

Suggestion
Using a purely common since approach, If the speedo was working before the cluster swap but not after, then it is logical that the cluster or wiring is faulty or not compatible..
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im here because I posted on the 986 forum and I was told
@Porschetech3
could help:
Ok guys somehow similar problem here, lets see if we can solve this riddle:
-97 986 , changed the gauges for a 996 Carrera from '00. Installed the 996 Oil pressure unit, ran the wire, and connected the blue back connector to the gauges.
-Then reprogrammed the 996 gauges to the 986 values, including mileage, and made sure the voltmeter and the oil pressure were activated.
-Now.... the fun part. The gauges work perfectly: the lights, the clock, the central LCD, and the left LCD display the miles. BUT the tachometer and the speedometer do not work. Revs work, gas works, temp works.
For anyone wondering, I have checked the live readings of the ABS sensors and I get the speed showing up in the scanner, so the ABS sensors are all working well. Looks like the gauges do not "receive" that info.
I have changed fuse B1, B9 and B10... but so far the speedometer doesnt work.
Any Sherlock 986 Holmes that can decipher whats going on?
Guys- This just been solved. Got in the car and everything works. Like some miracle, like an angel called Hans or Juergen came down from german heaven and fixed the whole thing. 996 gauges in the Boxster working and looking amazing. Thanks all.
I'll see if I can shed so light on this for you, but also need a bit of clarification on the terminology...
In one line you say the Tachometer doesn't work, but in another you say the Revs work, to me they are the same thing so need clarification here ..
The speedometer signal comes from the ABS to the cluster.Make sure no faults are in the ABS ..
Using a purely common since approach, If the speedo was working before the cluster swap but not after, then it is logical that the cluster or wiring is faulty or not compatible..
Using a more technical approuch , a PIWIS tester is very very helpfull on this kind of stuff... The tester will activate the speedo or tach at any value to show the cluster function ...In other words you can tell the tester to command 60 MPH on the speedo and the speedo should show 60 MPH it if all is good with the cluster...
There is a recent thread in here for a PIWIS 3 tester for only $75 if you are ok with setting up software programs...
My bad
@Porschetech3
: The revs meter worked, the speedometer (To the left) didnt, and the LCD speed meter wasnt working either - Tested the ABS sensors yesterday and they gave me the reading, so it wasnt an abs issue. I have a Foxwell scanner and a Durametric. So yeah, the embarrassment was posted and the car got fixed.
One quick note tho, the gauges came from a 996 abandoned at a store called CALLAS Motorsport, a purple 996 with a Flat6 engine they were trying to sell last summer, so I had no clue if the gauges worked... I like playing roulette!
PHoto here!
