Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not sure of the appetite/tolerance for "Show me your fill-in-the-blank" threads here, but I was hoping to see what others have done with their Seal Grey 996's. I'll admit to being a little jealous of those of you with Guard's Red, Speed Yellow, or Cobalt Blue paint as they stand out in a crowd. As much as I like my car, I feel like maybe it needs a little something extra. Short of repainting, I'm really just looking for wheel/trim options to possibly spruce it up a bit. So, if you've got a Seal Grey 996 you wouldn't mind sharing a pic of, that would be awesome. To get things started, here's mine in it's current state. Nothing 'wrong' with it, just feel like it could use a little sumthin-sumthin. Black wheels? UPDATE: I should mention I've already replaced the pumpkins so we can check that box off. The pic I put up was a month or so old.

Aerokit, lowered with H&R springs, 19" black Avant Garde wheels, pumpkins gone. Champion Wheels

POST 3Original post

If you decide you want black wheels, painting yours is always an option:

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks mharrison. Your car looks great. That aero kit really sets everything off. I think I saw someone here recently plastidip their wheels to look like the ones you posted in your last pic. (Unless those are them?). I'm not sure I want to plastidip, but I do like the way those wheels look when painted black but with a little silver left showing around the lip. I'd probably go the permanent paint route. Those look pretty cool.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

One more note. There's probably an RoW M030 suspension in my future this year for the car. Car is at ~82K miles and coming due. Looking forward to a little drop in height and closing up those wheel wells that comes with it.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 12276748

That will be a nice addition.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 12276736

I was shopping specifically for an aerokit car. Personally, I think they look good and stand out a bit. I was initially looking at a black aerokit car in Atlanta with the wheels you have, but I thought it would look better with the wheels painted black. I did some research and found that pic of them painted. If I had bought that car, my wheels would have been painted like that. I really like the silver lip. Honestly, 100% black wheels tend to get a bit lost and blend into the tire in the shade. That silver lip sets them off. But, I stopped in Birmingham to look at the Seal Gray car on the way to Atlanta and ended up buying it and cutting my trip short. I think I made the right choice as this one was well cared for and had quite a few mods.

Fierofly, I came across that car in an earlier post and I followed your thread about the LS3 conversion. I think you and I are operating on very different levels of motivation and capability as far as car upgrading goes. Car looks great, and I bet it goes like crazy. I'm also immensely jealous of your garage setup.

I ended up not buying the car that had those wheels (in silver). That was a picture I found when I was planning to buy the car. I would have painted those immediately. I don't think I ever found a picture of those on a car.

^^^^996 hardtop for cabrio looks so good. Proportions and the curve of the dome meeting the A pillar make it my fave ragtop lid.

good question. I see that a lot. Maybe you could have ordered a contrasting color? Mine will be on BAT soon!

POST 103Original post

Fresh pic with cup lip and and Ruf spoiler. Caps pointing done by luck, so quick take a pic!

Any mod needed with the Ruf spoiler/decklid for the intake and fan?

POST 107Original post

Quotes source post: 16912213

Nope. Ruf said it will work fine for any 996 NA, and it does. The base was finicky to place and secure the wing upright bolts on my .2 lid. Had to bore out passenger rearmost mount hole for the long wing bolt to clear a bulge on the inner lid steel. Also, the spoiler base needs some finesse to position on the lid properly. Not too much brain work for $1,800 all-in.

POST 108Original post

Thx for adding $5k to my rebuild. Was already borderline on going full kit. My fiancee now hates you... What are you running for suspension to go with that currently?

POST 110Original post

Sorry in advance for crashing the party; I hope this doesn't warrant a flame. I'm a huge fan of Seal Gray. This is my 986 on 19" 987 Cayman lobster claws. Photo was taken near the top of Squaw Pass in Clear Creek County, Colorado, about 20 minutes from my home. I'm currently planning to add a 996 C4S or Turbo to the garage within the next 12 months to complement this 986 and a silver 955 CTTS. Others may think Seal Gray is boring, but I think it's classic and timeless. My 996 will likely also be Seal Gray unless I can find a super clean Lapis Blue. I plan to post a "WTB" ad in the next several months so if you have a clean C4S or Turbo (manual trans only) and thinking of selling, feel free to PM me. I'm not ready yet, but I will be soon. Not a 996.

I bought my 997 in large part because it is Seal Grey .....I feel no need to be noticed, learned a long time ago it is the nail that stands out that get pounded.....as a small-time collector I never modify a car......just my opinion, others have their own opinions,,,,

POST 130Original post

Yeah, i have never been a bright color car guy. Always preferred the classic understated look that over delivers. Seal grey was a very new color for the 911 when it first came out. I remember seeing a seal grey 996.2 for the first time back in 2002 and thought it was the coolest looking car and color. So i bought one. The color is a classic that has aged well over time.

Thats a beautiful combo. Im not a fan of the cabriolets, but your car with the top down really lets the interior shine and I think that is really neat.

Ten years ago I passed on a couple of skittle coloured 4s’s and a handful of Arctic Silver beauties for the understated Seal Grey MKii C2 6 speed with very few electronic options. Bare bones. I have no regrets. My estate, however, will eventually prefer I chose the Speed Yellow Aero example.

Thought I posted this earlier. 03 4S at VIR. Just got a set of hollow turbo twists in black for track days. does anyone have a seal gray with stripes in something other than black? Looking to add some color to the car.

My seal grey 996 GT3. I love this beast! I use it as a DD along with my 996. This was during an inspection of one of my rental properties. The tenant was all "OMG! what is that??"
