Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

On the other hand, if you are a skilled driver, you can wipe the floor competing with a person who uses the best tires (street and track) dedicated for such use.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello RLers.
I own a 2000 C4 Cab that currently has 225/40/18 Michellins up front and 265/35/18 in the rear. I live in Chicago and will be driving all winter so I'm in the market for dedicated winter rubber to swap out.
Here's the issue: I can't seem to find winter tires in these dimensions under the same manufacturer and line for all 4 wheels. I've gone to every online tire website and when I punch in my year/make/model they all want to sell me a 17" rim, and that's not what I want.
Q: Am I going about the search in the wrong way ie: winter tires have different specs than my summer tires? Do I need to loosen up my criteria to include a different aspect ratio in order to find 4 matching tires?
Would welcome any advice.
Specs aside there seems to be a consensus that Pilot Alpins and Sottozero Series 2 or 3 are the best choices.
Where exactly do you live and drive? I live in the Oak Park area and drive downtown on all seasons and get around just fine. They plow pretty often around here. Even if they dont, Im good to about 6-7 without worry of getting stuck.
DWS tires arent bad for snow/slush and then you can switch to summers anytime you want.
Otherwise, you might have trouble finding winters without going to buy a new set of winter wheels.
Thanks for the input. I'm totally open to that, but that would mean I would need to invest in four 17' rims, right? You can't run a 17" tire on a 18" wheel, can you?
Right, 17 tires on 17 rims. I had that for my Mini Cooper and M5. But my Boxster S and 911 were all seasons are worked fine.
When I say fine, your mileage may vary. On the one hand, some people think putting all seasons on a 911 is a terrible idea because they believe that all seasons dont do anything well. I beg to differ. They are quite good in their optimum conditions ranges here in Chicago, especially since they tend to plow here.

I dont much care to buy wheels that dont look as good for the winter, which could add up to 6 months here. And really good wheels are pricey.
Online tire websites like Tire Rack can be misleading. If they don't stock it, it doesn't exist. Check the manufacture's websites for the sizes offered then work with a local shop to track them down. 1010Tires.com is a bit clunkier than Tire Rack but they show
two different options
for winter tires in your size. Pirelli makes the Winter 240 Snowsport and Kumho the Wintercraft WP71 in 225/40R18 and 265/35R18. You probably can find more options with a little more digging.
I like all season tires here in Seattle since we get moderate winters but I like the option to go up into the mountains. I have 235/40-18s and 285/35-18s Michelin A/S3 for winter tires and they work well. The fronts do not rub. The rears might be a better diameter match in 275/35-18 but either will work and they both fit on the 11" wide stock rims where 265/35-18s should have 10".
