I think you should regularly inspect the bearing (by slackening the serpentine belt & checking for play) and not ask any water pump to give you more than a dozen or so years of reliable service.

Do not buy and use a water pump with metal vanes (they are available) for the obvious reason that with time, the metal impeller might become loose and score your engine block, not a good scenario.

Water pump is down and sure the dealership will cost alot and not provide the best quality pump. What would be the best pump to install as to not have to repeat this again. Thanks

I don't believe that the plastic vanes actually deteriorate on their own. I believe it happens when the bearings wear out and there is play that causes them to come in contact with the block. I replaced mine after 16 years and the vanes were perfect in perfect shape. My original water pump had no play in it when I removed it.
