Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'fuse' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'fuse' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuse' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Over the last few days I have noticed when removing the key I have to turn it to the left to pull it out. Meaning, I rotate it and turn the car off then have to turn more left to get it out. Tonight I turned the car on and then turned my lights on. Only one light came on, turned the key slightly left and both came on. I believe the key mechanism thought it was turned too far. Turning the car off when I got home and pulled the key, radio stayed on.
What do you think?
You will get push-back about NOT doing the whole shebang. Ignore it - the switch is SO cheap, it's insane to not try it first.
FYI, I have had the same issue with both my 986 and 996. The electrical part took care of it in both cases. The Boxster was REALLY pooched; with how hard it was to get the key out, I was worried that the electrical switch wasn't going to be the problem. It was.
Agreed. I had a problem with the key not coming out and I replaced the electrical part with an Audi part for around $30. You can buy it from several parts distributors. The dealer wanted $1000 to replace the whole part, but my DIY replacement worked perfectly.
quick follow up...bought the $30 part that should arrive tomorrow for install. I took the old one out over the weekend..pretty straight forward though it is a bit tough to get at. Heard a click when i pulled it out...I guess it was the mech going back in place...
ignition Switch
Part #: 4A0-905-849-B-M5. From Pelican parts. $27 plus shipping. I have the original ignition.
All installed and working perfectly. Thanks all!
Be cautious when you order the part. I have a '02 .2 C2, and I got the wrong part when I first ordered it. I presume there are different switch electronics for the .1 and .2 models.
Could be wrong switch (or a cheap one...how much did you pay for your switch and where did you get it?) or you bumped either the clutch switch or brake switch electrical connectors while in there. Also, check that all your brake lights are working. Check the fuse for the cruise control.
I ordered it from Pelican parts.
Part# 4A0-905-849-B-M352 Ignition Switch, Electrical Portion Only (NOTE: Only for cars with an original lock assembly)
I will check the fuses and clutch/brake switches.
Thanks
