I thought it may be the battery so I replaced the battery and no dice.

Suspected cause

I think "drive a mile" is most likely a synonym for "jiggle and vibrate the problem switch until the lights come on."

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ok so I read up on all the headlight switch threads and didn't find anything like this. I turn on the headlights and the dash and rear taillights come on perfectly. Same with the fog lights. But the headlights don't come up. But If I drive it for about a mile or 2 miles then the headlights will come on. I thought it may be the battery so I replaced the battery and no dice. still the same issue. Anybody had this problem before where the headlights won't come on until you are driving for a while?

POST 2Original post

Litronics or halogens? Do the headlights always come on together, or do you get one, the other, or both? If they are Litronics and coming on independently of one another, my guess would be the voltage regulator is failing to supply the necessary start-up current to the ballasts. If the two headlights behave identically, I'd look at both the dash light switch as well as the electrical part of the ignition switch. I think "drive a mile" is most likely a synonym for "jiggle and vibrate the problem switch until the lights come on." I have not had this specific issue. However, the list of things that act up when the ignition switch is dodgy is...impressive.

POST 3Original post

Headlight switches are also known to fail. You can apparently clean contacts too as this may negate need to replace. Pelican has a guide for you: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...eplacement.htm

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
