Use a couple pieces of masking tape to mark where the window connects and you can put it right back the same location.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello! just got this car and read through a bit of helpful tips. There is an issue with the drivers side quarter window, binding and grinding and not going all the way up. I don't see any info on how to get the interior panels pieces off to get access to this motor/regulator. Any assistance is much appreciated. KooL911
You can force the rear windows to work with the top down by sticking your finger in the little hole where the center "hook" latches the top to the windshield frame. There is a microswitch in there that allows the windows to be operated with the normal console switches.
Don't try this while driving, as it takes two hands!
If the cables on the regulator are tangled up....I doubt you will be able to pull the window up....and by what you stated in your first post, there is a good possibility the cables are tangled. Do a search on replacing rear window regulators....you will find good info, I went thru that exercise.
1999 911 6speed convertible. I know this is a little past due but i wanted to give an update on replacing the front door window regulator and the rear (quarter) window regulator. The front part cost about $250 (without the motor - mine was still good) and was pretty straight forward. Use a couple pieces of masking tape to mark where the window connects and you can put it right back the same location.
The rear is a more expensive part at $650 which includes the motor (no option to buy without) and is quite tricky. Just need to loosen enough bolts and kinda pry the sides apart and work the piece out after getting to the 3 main bolts. You can get to the lower bolt thru the rubber grommet. Save the whole old piece and transfer any bolts that should go on the new piece. Also, i know its been mentioned, if you drop a bolt or two in the cavity of the car, they can be retrieved with a long magnet but can be challenging. Good luck.
