Hello:
Purchased an 01 Carrera two months ago (68kmiles) from a second owner. I have been reading and have learned lot of information on 996 (almost every night...).
Did an oil change few weeks back. I found little shinning metal pieces in the oil filter. Youtube video and some threads mentioned that this is normal...
I will just go ahead and have the IMS replaced...
please let me know of a local shop in San Jose CA areas that could perform this task.

I just had some work done by Dave @ modderman in mountainview. I would call him and ask [phone removed]. They had really good customer service. I tried calling flint works 3 times but no one ever answered.

+1 for Alden at flint works ... Did mine a couple of years ago - no issues - but I hope you kept your filter and a sample of the old
Oil - get uoa done - if there is already too much debris in your system - a new ims might not help you. Did you take picture of the filter and size of flakes ? Were they definitely iron (magnet test )?
Have a new IMS bearing and RMS installed by Flintworks few days ago. Steve told me that the old IMS bearing is on its last leg and ready to go. Just by luck and a lot of reading from this site and others. Car has 69kmiles...
