Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I ended up running another jumper wire to a ground on the engine and it was enough juice to pop the frunk release and I was able to replace the battery.

AFAIK all the front and rear trunk latches use an electric "motor" (solenoid like of like the one that moves a pin to and fro to lock/unlock the gas lid) to release the latch.

Unknown to me the lock button had been used on the remote but as the windows were down entry could be gained to the car (Car has been in storage).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is the battery dead? If so, there is a positive terminal in the engine compartment that you can hook up to and have enough juice to release the fronk.
If the battery is not dead there is a cable release on the passenger side front wheel well.
If the battery is dead you probably cant get to the engine either. You will have to find the pull cables or hook up to the power plug in the driver kick panel fuse box.
Oops. Outlaw beat me to it.
If the battery is dead you can't open rear lid either... Thus, you would have to use the emergency power hook up in the fuse panel or find the cable release. I carry a DBPOWER 600A Peak 18000mAh Portable Car Jump Starter in the floor behind the passenger seat.
My battery died a while ago and I couldn't get into the frunk but the engine cover opened with the lever. I didn't know about the positive terminal location there until later (RTFM, dummy!
).
I tried to rig up a cigarette lighter attached to a spare battery but it didn't provide enough juice.
I found a positive terminal in the fuse box at the drivers kick panel and attached a cable to it but couldn't find a good ground. I ended up running another jumper wire to a ground on the engine and it was enough juice to pop the frunk release and I was able to replace the battery.
My car is a '99. Did earlier cars not need the battery to release the engine cover? How does the frunk release work anyway? Why won't it work with no battery? Does it pop a solenoid or something? Is there some sort of electrical lock on it?
A good ground is the latch the door catches when it is closed.
AFAIK all the front and rear trunk latches use an electric "motor" (solenoid like of like the one that moves a pin to and fro to lock/unlock the gas lid) to release the latch. There is a pull cable which one can use to manually pull the latch and release the lid.
In my case the battery was dead and the trunk release lever would not move.
Unknown to me the lock button had been used on the remote but as the windows were down entry could be gained to the car (Car has been in storage).
Got power to the car from the jump start connections in the engine compartment.
Got the car running and still could not activate the ftrunk release (though it was electric and not cable)
When the unlock button was used on the remote this unlocked the latch release lever and was able to open the ftrunk. (yes it was cable)
It would appear that when the lock is activated it also locks the ftrunk lever (makes sense) and in this position it has very limited movement and feels like an electric release. Obviously without power from the battery the electric lock function does not work.
Once unlocked everything works fine.
I know this bears repeating - relocate the frunk emergency release cable to inside the front bumper tow hook plug. It will work even if nothing else will, and will save invaluable time when the battery goes dead. Do it now. It is so simple to do.
