It really doesnt take much to break up a graphite grey interior using your exterior paint color or another color.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The ashtray was buggered up and hard to open so I replaced the panel with a cubby style. While installing it, I noticed that the center console was painted and I could see all of the unsanded chipped marks under the paint. I believe the center console and other items like the ignition switch surround are also painted. Got me thinking about replacing or painting them to break up the concrete runway look. Thinking black, matching blue or brushed stainless. Thoughts?
I would say go ahead and paint match to your exterior color. I just decided to this because my console had a crack and a broken piece that I fixed and painted Seal grey to match exterior
Nice! There is one by me for very cheap, havent looked to see but do they match year for year?
i.e. will a 2003
boxster center console fit a 2003 911?
Any console from a 99-04 996/986 (some 05 models) will fit any other model 996/986. The only differences are that the 99-01 consoles have a different mounting method for the lid hinge (riveted vs. screwed), and as e30 pointed out the coupe/targa consoles have an extension on the rear with different rear side covers than the 996 cabrio and 986 boxster. Your existing console covers with directly interchange with any base console regardless of year or model.
If you are looking to match your center console color to your exterior paint color, these guys do a nice job with paint. I used them on mine.

Thank you, their site looks cool. Has me seriously considering matching console, radio surround, and maybe door pulls. The gloss clear on yours looks factory with that deep color look. I think even a matte black would be an improvement over the mismatched gray.

I went to ebay and bought a black Boxster center console that didnt have the rubber paint. Not expensive at all. Because it was black plastic, it was very easy to sand and then primer versus having to strip the rubber paint off.
I also picked up an emergency brake on ebay to strip, primer and paint the base. I used a little hobby lobby model paint gun and it turned out pretty good. But decided to hand the center console project over to my indy who is a race shop that has a paint guy that paints race cars and had them professionally paint it. For sure, if you have the skills, you can do it yourself.
Good luck with the project. It will be worth it.
