Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

At this point i'm thinking of disconnecting the wires on the engine side and pulling the wires back into the cabin to access the damaged wires from there.
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect wires' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect wires' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Repair wiring isn't too bad,,, if i can reach them

I was trying to run some wires from the cabin into the engine bay.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So I screwed up. I was trying to run some wires from the cabin into the engine bay. Stupidly i ended up nicking (and cutting) a few wires on the main engine harness just inside the cabin (about an inch and a half in, along the thick rubber sheathing). Repairing wiring isn't too bad,,, if i can reach them.
I need to get about 24" of wires either back into the cabin, or back into the engine bay. I thought at first I could just unplug the harness at the ecu... but that is more of a rats nest than a plug. At this point i'm thinking of disconnecting the wires on the engine side and pulling the wires back into the cabin to access the damaged wires from there.
Anyone have any experience with how the harness was originally installed (i assume the entire harness was placed in the car and then run out to then engine bay, meaning those connectors should be able to get back into the car... but curious as to your thoughts. thanks
What side of the car? Im guessing the passenger side. Its not that bad.... release the 2 big x51 sockets from their moints and unplug the tail light (maybe the o2s too). At that point the entire harness can be pulled back into the car. All the interior panels just pop out and the sound deadening foam pulls out. Although its hard to orient correctly to reinstall.
Try this..? I've used it and it works and last very well if you can get some/slather some on the bare areas/wires...
Permatex also has their brand as do many others...
Liquid electrical tape
Thanks, I haven't pull everything through yet, but i've got everything disconnected.
I lost (not gone, but destroyed) one of the locking rings that go on the big *** electrical connectors. The small ones that hold the backs to the bracket. Any idea of a part number for that?
Edit: Looking at the ring i see two markings BMW (hah!)
1387117 (which i can't find available anywhere), as well as a random number: "982 034 -1" or possbly "962 034 -1". no luck so far with either
