Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Pull the pin, firmly snapped in place, rotate them out of the way and gently lift the pad until you can disconnect the cable connector and probably the housing from the frame.

Leading evidence: 'housing' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'housing' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect cable connector and probably the housing' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

You will probably have to disconnect the motor from the shaft and wind it back by hand.

He also was able to repair the soft top roof, which wasn't engaging into the side slats along the top of the passenger side door.

He has told me I will need an upholsterer to go right through the bottom seat cushion in order to access the bolts and get the seat out and then fix/replace the motor.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, my new-to-me 2003 Cab has a power passenger seat (6-way I think) and the seat is all the way forward. It will go up and down, and the seat will angle/recline, but the seat won't travel backward. No noise, no movement, no nothing.
I took it to the indy Porsche mechanic here and he expected it was going to be a switch problem. But when he applied current directly to the motor, the motor did nothing- so now he thinks it is the motor.
The kicker is that because the seat is all the way forward, and won't move back, he can't access the bolts to get the seat out and try to fix the motor. He has told me I will need an upholsterer to go right through the bottom seat cushion in order to access the bolts and get the seat out and then fix/replace the motor.
Anyone run into this, and is that the only solution? I searched the forum and found threads on power seat problems, but never this... if I could just get the seat to move back somehow...
Thanks!
Hey Pryce,
That really stinks. I assume he can't access the bolts, because the metal rails are covering the front star hex bolts? Did you try raising the seat all the up and try to manually move the seat backwards?
Could you post some pictures?
If your seat is assembled like the sport seats in my 2003 C2 cab and 2004 turbo cab you can take the seat squab off without damaging things.
There are two white plastic clips around the front of the seat frame. Pull the pin, firmly snapped in place, rotate them out of the way and gently lift the pad until you can disconnect the cable connector and probably the housing from the frame.
Then you can pull the bottom cushion out.
You will probably have to disconnect the motor from the shaft and wind it back by hand.
If so make sure to remove the rear mount bolts before you move it back. It is 2,587 turns to the 1/4" to move the seat, well it seems like that, anyway you don't want to do it twice.
Seat bottom out of frame, loosened front clip, rear hooks.
For some closure: I took the car in to an auto upholsterer, who also works on seat motors (it seems many of them do). Rather than replace the motor, he was able to fix it. He was a man of few words and wasn't specific about what exactly had to be fixed, but it is working great now and I was out the door for $350.
He also was able to repair the soft top roof, which wasn't engaging into the side slats along the top of the passenger side door.
Thanks for everyone's help.
Yes of course-
Harry's Auto Top and Upholstery, in West LA. He's very old school- basically just told me, leave it with me for a day and I will take care of it. And sure enough, he did! Seat and soft top were fixed later the same day. Seemed honest and reliable.
