I replaced my windshield nozzles to correct the "spraying under the hood" problem which is solved, and I used the newer 997 part numbers so I had to chop off the old plugs to hook up the heater circuit.

Suggestion

I was hoping you could open up the connector and replace the wires but from the sounds of it you need to cut and splice.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys/Gals, I replaced my windshield nozzles to correct the "spraying under the hood" problem which is solved, and I used the newer 997 part numbers so I had to chop off the old plugs to hook up the heater circuit. For those of you who have done this, does the polarity of the wiring matter? If it's just a resistor that creates the heat, I don't think it should. But I thought I'd inquire for those that have done this already just to be sure. Also, when do those heaters actually turn on? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

no, but thats theory and experience with mirror and other heaters, they all are just heating elements. the wires were all black werent they

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13941234

Yes, both black skinny wires with no markings or grooves to differentiate them.

POST 4Original post

Interesting, is the connection for a heater element inside the nozzle then. I almost replaced mine with 997 ones but found used 996 ones instead. I was hoping you could open up the connector and replace the wires but from the sounds of it you need to cut and splice.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 13942936

You need to cut and splice; the pins are much smaller in the 997 plug version and can't just be removed from the plug and inserted into the 996 plug "shell".

POST 6Original post

and remember the old 928 nozzels were heated too and they were both black wire too. usually never any polarity to heaters

Thanks for the heads up, didn't that it would be that simple if they made an" upgrade kit" for it.
