Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

6 Ways to Keep Your M96 Engine Going Strong by Joe Coelho

POST 2Original post

this article is more or less what I've spent the last year piecing together

POST 3Original post

This article suggest 5w-40 or 15w-50 but I've seen recs of 0w-40... are all "correct"?

POST 4Original post

Good stuff No.5 - what is this - "Most kits will also include updated 997 oil return tubes to get oil back to the pan as quick as possible." - that's a new one on me.

POST 5Original post

I'm always a little shocked when I hear some of my Pcar friends talk about oil change intervals. "I just had the oil done about 3k miles ago so it should last me a few more months." When was that? "Last July." What.

I don't get it. Too soon, or too late?

POST 7Original post

He means 997 pick up tubes. They are a better design than the 996 version. Nothing earth shattering .Obviously they are extended also.See the photos of "Technosump" for more. http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_2/TechnoSump.html

Yes i searched pics after to see what they meant. I see 2 long black tubes in the pic but had not seen them installed in pics. It's for the return to the sump, so wondered what made them better - longer - larger diameter etc. Thx.

Maybe, if you reject the notion that 0w-40 is meant for colder climates, which imply running in cold temps. Which implies a rejection of cold wx scoring as posited by JR in the general theory of m96 reliability late, idea is to change @ 3k or 6 months, whichever comes first.

POST 10Original post

In theory, they reduce foaming. They are inexpensive ,so why not?

POST 12Original post

Suggestion #6 "Drive it!" Yup, gonna keep on driving till the wheels come off or motor implodes.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 13944817

Some folks forget that it seems...and not only drive it but - REALLY drive it - get the revs up and give it a good thrashing !!

POST 15Original post

I thought I read somewhere on here that C4S had a different oil pan, but can't find that thread....

POST 16Original post

The c4s had the same motor as the c2 Unless it has the x51 option

POST 17Original post

I wouldn't run 15w50 in the later varioram p cars , too thick oil can impair the operation. 5w40 works just fine .
