I'm not an expert on this subject, so many 996 Cab drivers like me replace the 2 DIN head unit and reuse the amp, with or without Bose.

I would like to replace the radio, however, Ive looked endlessly and cant seem to find a harness or instructions on what I need to be able to connect an aftermarket radio.

The CD drive is taken away and creates a convenient shelf in that spot, since most modern head units have Apple CarPlay and stream music instead of using CD media.

Initially I would just use the factory amp and see how that sounds also remove the cd changer in the front trunk.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am new here and just acquired my first Porsche, it is a 996 cabrio. I would like to replace the radio, however, Ive looked endlessly and cant seem to find a harness or instructions on what I need to be able to connect an aftermarket radio. I see lots of stuff for radios with Bose, but not for my radio.
I currently have the factory Porsche PCM with Navigation and CD changer, no Bose, see attached image.
Can someone please help me out before I pull the hair I dont have the out.
Thank you.
What year is your car? I recommend you reach out to the folks at CAI -

. They will be able to hook you up. Congrats on the car! What color is it?
It's all depends on what you're wanting to reuse in addition to the headunit. Are you gutting it or are you going to try to reuse the amp?
Good news is the PCM1 is fully analog and so the connectivity to aftermarket radios will be less painful than post-2002 cars with MOST transfer bus and fiber optics.
Basically the PCM1 will have all the standard ISO plugs found on other analog headunits with the exception of two large connectors (blue with white lock and black with white lock) that handled the factory navigation and integrated cell phone.
The main BLACK ISO plug A and the smaller YELLOW ISO plug C1 are normally reused. The small blue and green ISO plugs C2 and C3 are not reused because the factory navigation, phone, and CD changer are no longer supported.

The CD drive is taken away and creates a convenient shelf in that spot, since most modern head units have Apple CarPlay and stream music instead of using CD media. You can also add plug-in modules for telephone, SiriusXM, camera, microphone, etc. All the bells and whistles that the original Porsche head unit did not. /X3
My goal is to install a new double-din that has Apple Carplay and the ability to connect a rear camera. I am considering the updated Porsche PCM unit for these cares, I forget the exact name, but I know it has Apple Carplay. Doesnt seem that its wireless but I saw another member add the wireless Apple Carplay module to it which is what I would do if I got that radio. If not, I would just find a new aftermarket double-din that does all that, I would want it with a volume ****. I appreciate your reply with all that information it gives me hope that may it isnt so hard to do. I used to install car audio at a shop as a teen and have always loved car audio but now as I am older some of this seems overwhelming, Im glad folks like you are willing to help. Thank you.
Black is beautiful. Mine is a 2001 in Meridian Metallic. I purchased the Porsche PCCM+, and it was dead easy to wire into my HiFi non-bose copper wire system. I do think the PCCM+ is awesome, but the price went up since I purchased I think. I paid 1300.00.
EDIT; looks like Suncoast still has that price, or does now. https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/sku997pccm.html

The physical buttons, the nav, and the volume **** are really nice. It looks factory. The touch screen is not that good, be aware. You have to really make contact. Nothing like a smartphone. So physical buttons improve the UX. I don't mind plugging my phone in, but yeah, wireless would be nice. It's an easy upgrade but I've not bothered.
Be aware, If you pull the 2 ways out of the dash you will likely find the surrounds are falling apart, if they are the originals. CAI can provide adaptors and speakers at a reasonable price. They have two options, I went with the cheaper ones, the Audison Prima APX 4s, in the dark and in the rear. I left the mid- subwoofers in the doors alone, they are in well designed acoustic cabinets. Sounds good to me, I like the engine noise but the interior of a 911 is always a noisy place, so good speakers can help. You could splash out for the Focas as well. I had planned on an amp upgrade, but it got to expensive to have a car stereo place do the install, with amp I think about 2k, so I passed. Believe me, there's plenty of other parts and repairs these cars need that will eat your paychecks 😉. You have to love em.
Throw away that OEM junk and install Android Head Unit. You need to research which one is best brand, but they have a tons of clones like this:

I installed similar unit into my 981 and it's like year 2100, vs 1900, it has everything, including wireless carplay, and the quality is great. Mine is from Erisin brand...

hello. I am debating on the Audison APX 4s right now from CAI. Are you still happy with them?
hes pushing me towards the Focal, but spending money elsewhere right now until I do an amp upgrade down the rod.
