Suspected cause
I think you should probably look at PowerHound's light set up on his turbo, it's custom and probably the nicest of any 996 I've seen.
Leading evidence: 'nicest of any 996 i've seen' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'nicest of any 996 i've seen' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Set i want' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The racecar headlights are still using old reflector tech anyways and we have moved well beyond that.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
After many google images, I have seen the different trends for headlight designs. All very subtle differences. I have the classic burnt / melted glass so I need to go in there and fix it!
Ok, back to headlight styles: theres the 996.1 and 996.2 headlight shape. These two shapes were used in various cars! A near identical unit to the 996.1 (boxster) light was use in the street version of the gt1.
Now, in racing, its different... (I guess?) The racing gt1 has a the same .1 housing shape but the glass headlight lens (the closed beam like an old vw bug or 911) appears to be perfectly round! The 996.1 street / factory cars have an skewed oval shape (see last pic) while the racing cars are just a plain circle in a housing (best image is the gt1 photo below). This is a cool look IMHO.
Now, with the .2 light style, you either got the standard street style without the oldschool halogen sealed beam style glass light within the unit, or if you have a race car RSR gt3, you actually got a glass headlight within the new turbo style .2 headlight! (IDK where these "race cars" were produced tbh).
I am a fan of these lights and have a set I want to modify mine and so forth. I am wondering if anyone has info as to
why
such a small detail difference exist, round vs skewed oval headlight, and if there are any instances of these racing style light being equipped on a street car for the sake of looks!
Thanks

Im gonna retract my comment some. I just pulled up the rsr pet drawings and they do show headlight buckets and round lenses. U would need a pmna account or a source to buy parts and im guessing the parts would be several thousand dollars.
Don't get gouged by PMNA, just make them yourself. The racecar headlights are still using old reflector tech anyways and we have moved well beyond that.
I have a guy, we can take a crack at it. It's on my bucket list of wants for the 996 as the stock projector headlights are showing their age.
