Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So by chance I was looking at old posts about early 996s and the whole amber lights thing folks were posting VINs looking for the early builds. I also saw that 620061 is apparently the first VIN of the series. Checking my baby I see that I have VIN 620065 with a 1/98 build date. Who knew! Probably built day 1 Anyone have 1,2,3,4 still out there?

POST 2Original post

Thats cool! I imagine they were very proud watching it roll out the door. The 996 was special at that moment. Mine is 0128, built 01/1998. So around 68th produced? From what can tell, the majority of the early batch are attic silver with black interior, which describes the one I own exactly.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup. Mine is arctic silver black (full leather) interior up to 52000 miles now😉

POST 4Original post

Very cool. Now I want to know what is the oldest 996.2 Mine is serial number ending 620523 build date Sep, 2001.

POST 6Original post

That's cool. The old threads are interesting to read the perspective from original owners. Mine is 159 1/98 build date and also Arctic Silver on Black.

You would be correct that your car was probably built on day 1 of cars destined for North America, but the oldest 996 (ROW) would have a 9/97 production date.

Do you happen to have pictures of your old lady ? MY97 cars notwithstanding, right? Weren't there about 50 early cars build with MY97?

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 19919883

No, I am referring to ROW MY98 cars. My research to date indicates approximately 3000 cars built between 9/97 - 12/97. The handful of pre-production cars built for press reviews & photo shoots were assembled in March/April of 1997.
